Miller Bruce Bromley Professor of Law Harvard Law School Arthur R. Miller is the Bruce Bromley Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where he has taught since 1971. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and his law degree from Harvard Law School. Before joining the Harvard faculty, he practiced law in New York City and taught at the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan. Among lawyers he is nationally known for his work on court procedure (a subject on which he has authored or co-authored more than 40 books), copyright and unfair competition, and remedies. The general public knows him for his work in the field of the right of privacy, a subject on which he has written, testified, debated, and helped formulate legislation. His book The Assault on Privacy: Computers, Data Banks, and Dossiers (1971) has been extremely influential. In recent years Professor Miller has taught courses on civil procedure, copyright, and complex litigation; he recently co-taught a seminar on law, information and technology. He has worked in the public interest in the fields of privacy, computers, copyright and the courts. Among the responsible positions he has held are those of commissioner on the United States Commission on New Technological Uses of Copyrighted Works, reporter for and member of the Advisory Committee on Civil Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States, and reporter for the American Law Institute’s Project on Complex Litigation. Hon. Diane P. Wood U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit Senior Lecturer in Law University of Chicago Law School Diane P. Wood is a circuit judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and a senior lecturer in law at the University of Chicago Law School. Wood attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning her B.A. in 1971 (highest honors) and her J.D. in 1975 (Order of the Coif). After graduation from law school, she clerked for Judge Irving L. Goldberg on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (1975-76) and for Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the U.S. Supreme Court (1976-77). She then spent a brief period at the Office of the Legal Adviser in the U.S. Department of State. In 1980, she began her career as a legal academic at Georgetown University Law Center. She moved to the University of Chicago Law School in 1981, serving as a full-time professor until 1995 and as associate dean from 1989 through 1992. In 1990, she was named to the Harold J. and Marion F. Green Professorship in International Legal Studies, becoming the first woman to hold a named chair at the school. From 1993 until she was appointed to the Seventh Circuit in 1995, she served as deputy assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and is on the Council of the American Law Institute. Wood has three children. She enjoys playing the oboe and English horn in several Chicago-area amateur orchestras. A 1979 graduate of Yale Law School, Klonoff served as an assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States, an Assistant United States Attorney, a visiting professor at the University of San Diego Law School, and law clerk for John R. Brown, Chief Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also previously taught class actions at Georgetown Law Center. He has authored or co-authored five books, including the West Group Casebook, Class Actions and Other Multi-Party Litigation (2000, 2d ed. forthcoming 2006). Klonoff is an associate reporter for the American Law Institute’s class action project, Principles of the Law of Aggregate Litigation. He serves in editorial positions for the American Bar Association’s Class Actions & Derivative Suits and the Bureau of National Affairs’ Class Action Litigation Report. He is a member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. He served as a reporter for the 2005 National Conference on Appellate Justice. In addition to his academic post, he is counsel with Jones Day, having previously served as a partner with the firm for nearly 15 years.
