McInnis Español 2012 Expectations and Class Policies The main rule in our class is to foster a learning environment. So, what does that mean? It can include, but is not limited to the following expectations: 1. ¡Habla Español! Class participation is key to learning a second language (and is part of your daily participation grade). 2. Arrive on time and be prepared. Be in your seat, ready to work, when the bell rings, or you will be marked tardy. Being tardy three times will result in after-school detention. Remember that 2 tardies equal one absence, per school policy. 3. Respect your teacher, your classmates, and yourself: - Talk when it is your turn, listen to others, and ask to borrow things that are not yours. - Dress appropriately for school. - Respect our classroom by keeping it tidy and clean. You may drink water in the classroom (in a bottle with a lid). However, all other food, drinks, and gum are not allowed in the classroom. - Cell phones are a distraction, and are not to be seen or heard. No texting either! 4. Use your computer and the internet appropriately in class. See the Classroom Acceptable Use Policy (CAUP) in Moodle, and AUP on the school website. 5. The bell does not dismiss you; the teacher does. **All school guidelines listed in the AHS Student Handbook apply in this class. ** Homework (Tarea) – You will have a homework assignment every night. It will not be overly time- consuming, but it is necessary to practice a foreign language outside of the classroom. Please put your best effort into this, and use each night’s homework as a way to help you practice what we are learning in class. Always do your own work. Late Work – Late work will be accepted with point deductions. You have no more than two (2) days to turn in late work before the grade becomes a zero. Make Up Work – If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. We will have a folder listing all assignments and content covered in case of an absence. Please consult the folder first, and then ask questions. Make-up work is due within three days after you return to class, including tests and quizzes (come before or after school to take). You will receive a zero if the work is not made up on time. It is your responsibility to get your make-up work to me or to sign up to make up a test or quiz. Before or After School – Generally I am available Tuesdays and Thursdays, but my schedule varies each week. Please see me to schedule time for tutoring, make-up work, etc. Restroom/Water Fountain Pass: Please try to use the restroom or get water on your way to class each day. If you must go during class, you need to ask permission, but without interrupting the lesson. You will be allowed to go three times per six weeks. I will sign the grid below. You will also sign out on the roster on the door. Pass 1 Pass 2 Pass 3 Pass 4 Pass 5 Pass 6 Pass 7 Pass 8 Pass 9
