Welcome to the new academic year
2016-17!
Words may not suffice to express our heartfelt
sorrow for the passing of our Honorable
Chairperson, Dr.Sanjeewani Deshpande, an
eminent
scholar, dedicated teacher and a
loving guide. It is a great loss to the
Vidyalankar family. A true well – wisher, our
constant source of inspiration, determined and
humble lady. Her devotion and sincere
contribution with the Vidyalankar group of
Institutes,
since
their
inception
took
Vidyalankar to the echelons of success. She
achieved her PhD in her
seventies which
Vice-Principal , VIT
reflected her passion for research and life long
learning. She played an instrumental role in
personally motivating and mentoring Vidyalankar teachers to pursue their PhD studies
and research initiatives with a missionary zeal. She has left behind a rich harvest of
memories to cherish, honor and emulate.

Student Speak—Journey at VIT
Department of Information Technology
ITSA Activities: Open Source Technologies : A Boon
Introduction to Open Source Technologies was great start for ITSA. Seminar was
conducted by Mr. Ninad Chaudhari, student of VIT, who has in depth knowledge about
open source technologies and tools. He opened the
session with the need of open
source technology ,briefed about the history various applications developed in Open
Source. Students were made aware about various open source technologies which
would help them in various
subjects as well in projects. It was an informative
seminar and proved to be beneficial for the attendees.
Four years ago, when I visited this
institute for the first time, I felt the
aura this place has. It is said that,
it’s our choices that show us what
we truly are far more than our
abilities and I feel righteous that I
chose
this
college
for
my
Engineering.
The only way by which we grow is
by stepping outside our comfort
zone. But we are often afraid to take
that first step. My VIT journey
literally helped me to break these
chains of fear I had around me to
get outside. To be honest, I was
never the kind of person who would
go on stage and perform without
any fear and anxiety. But as it is
said that unless you give it a try,
you never know if you are good at it
or not. There is one famous quote
by Dr.Seuss - “Kid, you’ll move
mountains! Today is your day! Your
mountain is
waiting. So…get on
your way!” Whether it be performing
in class wars or giving a speech in
seminar in front of huge audience or
presenting a paper in
national
level
paper
presentation
competition, I got a lot of support
from VIT and from
professors
here.
These small experiences
and
victories raised my confidence and brought me closer to
myself.
ACM Activities: Cloud Seminar
A Seminar on CLOUD was conducted by Mr Chirag M Panchal on 11 August 2016.The
seminar students got to learn about the basics of Microsoft One drive. They were given
complete information about how One Drive could be used to maintain a backup of our
data and to retrieve it later. The students were encouraged to use it as it is very
secure and were introduced about the azure-a Microsoft service.Systematic demonstration of how One Drive is used. The seminar helped the students to learn about the latest
technology like Big Data and its use in future. One Drive is a file hosting service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device.
Users can share files publicly or with their contacts; publicly shared files do not require
a Microsoft account to access them. OneDrive is included in the suite of online services
formerly known as Windows Live.

organized IEEE Membership
Drive on 23, 24 and 26 August
2016. As a part of the Membership Drive, an event called 'Game

Team Red (ETRX, EXTC, BIOMED Departments) competed
against Team Blue (COMP and IT
Departments). Both teams had to
control their bots (using the link:
god.ieee-vit.org ) and steer them
to seize the finish spot. With the
final score of 3-1, Team Red
emerged victorious . The response received has been phenomenal, with over 22,149 hits to
the microsite!
The expanding footprint of sprawling cities, primarily informal shantytowns at the outer
fringe, is characterized by a lack of arterial grids, unwieldy block sizes, and inadequate
open space. Urban Expansion throughout the globe is expanding to a great extent. World
Bank has been shelling out loads of money for the same to the local governing bodies.
However it has been observed that whatever pan has been put is not what is exactly being followed. Thus Urban observatory in
correspondence with NYU has been working
to reconstruct the Layout policies so that urbanisation can be of planned more accurately.
The unplanned and
unfettered growth is bad for the environment, increases the
cost of delivering basic services, and hinders economic activity and food security. Through
a
combination of in-house and commissioned research, the Institute investigates
broadly defined land policy issues as well as more specific themes. The work done here
aims to measure the quality of expansion in urban areas from 1990 – 2010 as part of
NYU’s work on Monitoring Global Expansion. The Observatory is being established to
undertake the digitization of high resolution satellite imagery, in order to measure the quality of urban expansion in the fringe areas of 200 global cities. The analysis relies on a new
and sophisticated sampling methodology developed by New York University Urbanization
Project. Using the high-resolution satellite imagery of Bing and Google Earth, a random
set of 10-hectare locales in the expansion areas of cities is generated (areas developed
between 1990 and 2010).
IEEE Technical Paper writing Event, VIT- June2016

“Life is a tough race; it is a
marathon- Do what you can,
with what you have, where you
are” .
Nature designed with a random
set of genes and circumstances
in which we were born. Goals will
help us to make the most of
nature’s design. Students should
not just have career or academic
goals. They should set goals to
give them a balanced and
successful life.
Life is one of those races in
nursery school, where you have
to run with a marble in a spoon
kept in your mouth. If the marble
falls, there is no point coming
first. Same with life, where health
and relationships are the marble.
Your striving is only worth it if
there is harmony in your life. Else,
you may achieve the success, but
this spark, this feeling of being
excited and alive, will start to die.
Excellence does not only mean
academic achievements; but also
has other elements like social
responsibility
and
personal
nobility. One should take the
opportunity to take steps required
to know the world, to explore the
earth and to reach the sky.
Mr. Mithil Vengurlekar shared his valuable knowledge about interview preparation. He
also took mock interview to show what mistakes can happen in an interview and also how
it should be .He shared his knowledge about interview questions, confidence , body
language etc. The
concepts which he explained are very useful as students are soon
going to face the interviews.

Session by Mr. Milind Tadvalkar (Director,VDT)
Adjusting to College Life - Balancing Freedom with Responsibility
Discipline is the key to success - this saying holds true for all times and for all people of
all age groups. But for students it holds a great value. In contemporary times there are so
many temptations that can lure a student away from his basic objective in life. Director,
VDT Mr. Milind Tadvalkar, discussed during this session about the glittering world of
smartphones, the glamorous world of being under spotlight and sheer ignorance unfolds a
new era in front of young student and they are wooed away, ignoring or unwillingly
following non-conscious behavior & attitude followed at college. Those who are not wise
enough to think rationally will be swept off. Temptations are always there. Only the forms
of temptations change. But those of us who learn the subtle art of self-discipline and
self-constraint, nothing can prevent us from attaining our goals in life.
