Think about the following and write down bullet point answers in rough:
• Was the Treaty of Versailles fair to Germany?
• Were Germans happy with its stipulations?
• Should the German government have been allowed to discuss it first or had Germans forfeited that
right by their actions in the war?
• Had all Germans wanted to surrender?
• What if some had wanted to continue fighting?
• How do you think that those Germans felt about their own governments and the governments of
the countries that drew up the Treaty of Versailles?
• Why do you think there was a revolution in Germany in November 1918 and why did Kaiser
Wilhelm II abdicate?
Part 2
Looking at Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points and the main points of the Treaty of Versailles (from
the last lesson), write answers for the following:
a. Which points are the same or very similar?
b. Why are they different from each other?
c. Why did the Germans want Wilson’s Fourteen Points?
d. How helpful would it have been to allow the defeated nations to attend and discuss the
conditions of the treaty?
e. Should the Germans have signed the treaty?
