STARTING SALARY RANGE: $21.49 – $24.82
JOB SUMMARY
Provides skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s utility systems. Work involves
operation of light and heavy equipment as well as performance of manual tasks in maintenance of sewer and
water lines, and other municipal property. Responds to after hour emergencies as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.
Perform maintenance and repair of the City’s utilities systems including operating equipment,
performing manual labor and general maintenance repair.
2.
Perform maintenance of utility lines including operation of sewer cleaning equipment and
related recordkeeping.
3.
Perform manual tasks related to maintenance of City utility system such as distribution system and
collection system repair, manhole work, working in confined spaces, etc.
Perform assorted manual tasks in Utility maintenance.
Operate trucks and various other light to heavy equipment in a safe and proficient manner. Report
equipment problems to Fleet maintenance in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.
Assist Street Department with snow removal operations using varied equipment.
Available at various hours to respond to calls and emergency situations in order to adequately serve the
public.
Adhere to safety standards, policies, practices and procedures in order to maintain a safe work
environment.
Conducts oneself in a positive, professional and ethical manner which promotes teamwork and sets an
example for others.
Perform other duties as apparent or as assigned.

Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and materials used in public works maintenance and
construction.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance procedures in water distribution and sanitary collection
systems.
Knowledge of safe operation, maintenance and minor servicing of various vehicles and equipment in a
skillful manner.
Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair pumps and motors.
Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to vehicle travel and operation.
Skill in the operation of all light and heavy equipment used by the City.
Ability to perform strenuous work for extended periods of time in all temperature extremes.
Ability to participate and work as part of the Utilities Maintenance Team.

performing labor work.

Environmental conditions to include operating equipment and performing manual labor under adverse
weather conditions; extremes of noise, vibrations, confined space and uneven work surfaces. Fumes and
dust may be present while performing job responsibilities.
Hazardous conditions to include moving parts on equipment and machines.
Hazardous materials to include skin irritants, lung irritants, odors/toxic fumes, chemicals, electrical,
radiation and hazardous materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED.
Possession of a valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within
three months.
Must obtain a Class D water operator certification and Class S-D collection system operator certification
within three years.
General knowledge of desktop and portable computer hardware and software programs and Microsoft
products (Office products, Windows and email).
NIMS ICS 100, 200 and 700 certified or ability to obtain within eighteen months.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of asset management and work order maintenance software
Working knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Water production and distribution experience
Collection system operation and maintenance experience
Hands-on mechanical experience
Water Environment Technologies Certificate.
