EMPLOYEE PROFILE: WICK DE BRUIJN
1. What does the logistics department do?
We process orders (pack-and ship), manage the inventory and manage the financial
aspect of each order. In addition we communicate with customers and account
managers about any special request.
2. Who is Wick?
I am 42 years old, live in Gouda and ride my bicycle to the office every day. I enjoy
jogging and riding my motorbike. I have 2 children and a dog. I empty the
dishwasher at BioChek every day, something I refuse to do at home.
3. Please describe your job and tasks. What is it exactly that you do?
Sandra takes care of the administrative part of the orders, I take care of packing and shipping and customers relations. In
addition I’m also responsible for inventory management, not an easy task in a growing business.
4. What do you find interesting in your job?
It’s fun being part of a relatively small and informal organization. The international aspect of my work dealing with customers
all over the world creates an extra challenge. Furthermore getting the products delivered in good order and on time is very
satisfying.
5. What do you expect to achieve for BioChek in the coming two years?
We want to contribute to the success of BioChek. It’s very exciting specially when looking at the growth in the number of
current products and the addition of the new product line, the swine tests. This will surely have a huge impact on the number
of orders and the total volume of kits to be shipped.
6. What are your personal goals?
Attending The World cup in Brazil! To which we will go with the entire BioChek team if we manage to double sales in the
coming 3 years!

INTERPRETATION NEWS:
NDV CASE HISTORY OF INFECTION WITH VACCINATION INDEX
In the April newsletter we have discussed Vaccination Index (VI) as a new approach
to evaluate the antibody titer response following vaccination/infection. To show the
ease of interpretation of using VI, we have decided to show a case history of a
confirmed clinical NDV infection in Broilers, following 2x live NDV application (at 01D
spray vaccination in Hatchery and at 20D drinking water application). The VI
guideline for NDV live vaccination for Broilers at 45D is given below:
Vac Program
VI Normal
VI Suspect Infection
Up to 3x Live vaccine
50- 250
>300
Despite vaccination with 2x live vaccination, at 21D onset of mortality and clinical symptoms was noted. Birds display severe
respiratory stress, nervous symptoms, paralysis of legs, and neck twisting. At post mortem birds show Airsacculitis and lesions
on Proventriculus and guts. Total mortality varied from 15 -21% in affected flocks. ELISA Serology done on all infected flocks
for all respiratory diseases (IBV, NDV, MG, MS, ORT, AI and ILT), revealed significant VI scores for NDV, indicating infection.
To demonstrate the ease interpretation with the help of VI an example of a non-infected and clinically infected flock is given
below:
NDV: normal vaccination serology in BR (VI index in normal range 50 -250)
Case: broilers were vaccinated on day 1 with live NDV Coarse Spray and on day 20 with live vaccine through Dr water. Shown
below is normal serology at 45 days.
NDV: infection serology in BR (VI index > 300)
Case: broilers were vaccinated on day 1 with live NDV Coarse Spray and on day 20 with live vaccine through Dr water. At 21
days of age birds showed clinical symptoms of respiratory infection and nervous symptoms (neck twisting) coupled with 21%
mortality. Shown below is serology at 45 days.
The good news is that the VI index is now included as an option in the BioChek software and will be automatically calculated
and printed on the reports.
If you like to use the VI index in your software or like to know more on VI, please contact BioChek or a nearest BioChek
representative.

Reference control:
• SR01 reference control. For use on currently available Swine kits.
HpsOppA antibody detection kit
General information about the test:
The BioChek Hps OppA ELISA is based on an intracellular protein called OppA. OppA is expressed by all Hps serotypes and it is
regarded to be specific for Hps only. Expression of OppA is only after clinical infections, despite of the Hps serotype, or after
vaccinations.
Intended use of the test:
Detection of clinical infected animals diagnosis
Detection of protective immunity
Prediction of time of vaccination
Confirmation of success of vaccination
Kit format:
Product code: SK104
2 plates per kit, 16 well strips
Run at room temperature
Incubation times: 60-60-15
Read at: 405NM
Indirect ELISA
1:50 dilution
PCV2 antibody detection kit
General information about the test:
Inactivated PCV2 virus is used as antigen. This antigen will detect antibodies directed against all strains of PCV2. Antibodies
due to natural infection, maternal antibodies and antibodies due to vaccination will be detected.
Intended use of the test:
Detection of infected animals
Herd profiling and prediction of time of vaccination
Confirmation of success of vaccination
Kit format:
Product code: SK105
5 plates per kit, 16 well strips
Run at room temperature
Incubation times: 30-30-15

AI type A antibody detection kit
General information about the test:
The format is a blocking ELISA which will detect antibodies against all Influenza A viruses. By this design antibodies against all
SIV serotypes will be detected. Both antibodies from natural infections and from vaccination will be detected.
Intended use of the test:
Detection of infected animals
Confirmation of success of vaccination
Kit format:
Product code: CK 401
5 plates per kit
Run at room temperature
Incubation times: 60-30

BioChek now has a panel of 12 freeze dried serum samples with known values. The samples have been validated on IBD, IBV
and NDV.
You can run these samples on either one of these tests.
After running these samples send the results back to BioChek and we will send you our results and the interpretation back.
When samples give the expected results we will send a certificate. In the case that the results are out of range you will be
contacted by BioChek and we will help identifying the cause for the inaccuracy.
The objective of this ringtrial is to confirm accuracy and reproducibility of the laboratory.
