Want vs. Need - Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry

Maybe you've considered getting veneers, but had too many doubts or
unanswered questions to take the first step. We’ve heard them all, and
hope to put your mind at ease with this basic guide. We’ll give you the
answers to common questions like: My teeth aren't that bad, do I really
need them? How much of a difference would veneers really make? How
will they look? Is it worth the investment?
All of these are great questions to ask when considering transforming your
smile with veneers. Whether a dentist recommends a single veneer for a
broken tooth or full mouth reconstruction, it is important to understand the
process and ensure you’re getting a quality product. Your smile is the first
impression you give, and beautiful teeth can give you the confidence to
blow them away with a smile.
So, what are the facts about veneers? Let's revisit the initial questions:
Want vs. Need - Depending on the specific case, veneers may be on a “want” or “need” basis. If
teeth are crooked, have gaps that trap food, or are chipped, veneers can solve those issues more
quickly than orthodontics and more aesthetically than metal crowns. Doctors can use veneers to
adjust a patient’s bite that suffers from TMJ. Other times, teeth are evidently healthy and straight so
why would we need veneers? Well, are they healthy, straight and white, but perhaps shorter than
average? Unless we've spent countless hours studying tooth anatomy (which most of us haven't)
using veneers to lengthen the teeth is a slight change that would make a huge impact on your smile
and overall facial balance.

A noticeable difference? – If you’re worried about veneers looking a certain shape or
shade, keep in mind that all of this can be
customized to fit your needs. A good way to
see how a change in length, width, or shade
would transform your face is through an
objective perspective, like cosmetic dental
imaging. The picture to the right depicts a
computerized imaging of what a person
would approximately look like with full mouth
veneers.
Will my teeth look like Chiclets?
A common concern with veneers is that the
smile will look overly perfect and fake. What
people don’t take into account is Smile Design, the process that our Accredited Cosmetic
Dentists go through when creating a treatment plan. The smile design process takes into
account gender, face shape and length, and existing restorations. It takes artistic ability and
extensive knowledge of cosmetic dentistry to understand how each factor effects the overall
aesthetics of the face. Most importantly, it requires the goals and preferences of the patient
that it is custom designed for.
“It's easy for cosmetic dentists to make things look too perfect and therefore unnatural looking.
Designing a natural smile is ACCD's specialty. It's an art. ACCD is possibly the most conscientious
medical business I have ever experienced”. - Robert C. (Review on Yelp)
Am I ‘damaging’ my teeth by opting for veneers? This is a valid concern with veneers, since
they require removing some of the natural
tooth structure.This allows more
manipulation of size and shape, as well as
extending the life of the veneers. However,
there are options, such as no-prep veneers
where there is little to no reduction of
natural tooth structure required to fit the veneers.
The upside to having quality porcelain over natural teeth is that it not only fixes any crooked,
stained, chipped, or small teeth, but porcelain is also more stain resistant than your natural
teeth and when cared for properly, can last as long as your natural teeth.
In our practice, we accept only the highest quality porcelain. Our veneers are hand crafted in
a lab with Accredited technicians, who work hand-in-hand with our doctors to ensure the
best quality and match for each individual. Additionally, we warranty our work, as well as our
patient’s satisfaction with their new smile. We’re proud to offer a number of testimonials,
reviews, and before and afters - the smiles speak for themselves!
Am I getting the best bang-for-my-buck?
This is another common concern for people considering veneers. It seems like we’re often
looking for the finest quality, the best service, and the lowest price. Years of experience have
shown us that often the reason the cheapest price is the cheapest price, is due to a lack of
quality, both in service and material. In the long term, which one would we be most willing to
give up? Quality? Service? Or price? We encourage patients to consider the life-altering value of a healthy and beautiful smile, and
they often find it’s an investment they’re willing to make.
“An amazing smile can have a huge impact on a
