The three towns are located in the center of the Gulf of Patti, between Tindari and Milazzo, in front of the Aeolian Islands. Tindari is an important pilgrimage destination for Christian people. They go to the Black Madonna shrine as this Madonna is believed to be able to create miracles. The city has Greek and Roman origins, and currently there is a vast archaeological site, with a greekroman theater. Tindari also gives the title to a mystery novel by Andrea Camilleri's Montalbano series, Excursion to Tindari. The Cape of Milazzo The city of Milazzo Tindari, the santuario and the Madonna Nera Milazzo is a beautiful town, with an important port that connects our area with the Aeolian Islands and the rest of Italy. There are many historical important places, like the castle of Milazzo, which was the favorite residence of Frederick II of Aragon in 1291; the medieval town developed in the Spanish period; the Marina Garibaldi, which is the locals’ favorite place for walking, in front of the sea. A lot of historic buildings are in the heart of the city, which is cultural and commercial centre in the province. The Cape of Milazzo is a natural reserve, where there are some typical plants like caper plant and prickly pears. Oliveri now has many hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and campsites. The natural beauties of Oliveri are concentrated along the coast. The Lido di Marinello between Tindari and Capo Milazzo is part of the 'Lakes of Marinello Reserve', and is an example of a salty coastal environment in north-eastern Sicily. The lakes of the reserve are an ideal habitat for the nesting of several species of bird including kestrels, ravens, the rare peregrine falcon, and the herring gull. The beaches are sandy and the emerald sea is crystal clear. Every year thousands of tourists come to visit it. Oliveri also has a historical center and an ancient castle.
