OUR TOWNS
THE NEARBY TOWNS
Our school is located in three towns:
Terme Vigliatore, Falcone and
Oliveri. The three towns are located
in the center of the Gulf of Patti,
between Tindari and Milazzo, in
front of the Aeolian Islands.
Tindari is an important pilgrimage
destination for Christian people.
They go to the Black Madonna
shrine as this Madonna is believed
to be able to create miracles. The
city has Greek and Roman origins,
and currently there is a vast
archaeological site, with a greekroman theater. Tindari also gives
the title to a mystery novel by
Andrea
Camilleri's
Montalbano
series,
Excursion
to
Tindari.
The Cape of Milazzo
The city of Milazzo
Tindari, the santuario and the Madonna Nera
Milazzo is a beautiful town, with an
important port that connects our area
with the Aeolian Islands and the rest
of Italy. This city also has GreekRoman origin, and is an important
destination for tourists throughout the
year. There are many historical
important places, like the castle of
Milazzo, which was the favorite
residence of Frederick II of Aragon in
1291; the medieval town developed
in the Spanish period; the Marina
Garibaldi, which is the locals’ favorite
place for walking, in front of the sea.
A lot of historic buildings are in the
heart of the city, which is cultural and
commercial centre in the province. The
Cape of Milazzo is a natural reserve,
where there are some typical plants
like caper plant and prickly pears. This
area is popular among tourists, who like
to go for long walks in the nature,
paragliders and wildlife photographers.
There are a lot of walking paths in the
vineyards and olive grooves, from the
top of the hill down to the wonderful
emerald coast. Another important
tonw near us is Barcellona Pozzo di
Gotto, which is the largest municipality
in the province of Messina, particularly
influenced by the Spanish domination
in the past. It’s a commercial, historical
and cultural centre. One important
naturalistic and artistic centre is Jalari.

Terme Vigliatore is located in the
bay of Patti, and is an important spa
and beach resort, surrounded by
vineyards, olive groves and citrus
groves. Behind the southern hills,
there are the natural reserves of the
Peloritani mountains, with beautiful
pine forests.
Terme Vigliatore was known since
Roman times, as confirmed by some
of the archaeological remains found
nearby. Among them there is the
Roman villa of the 1st century AD,
which had a small spa complex with
floors, to circulate hot air and steam
around the building.
The Roman Villa
Terme Vigliatore spa
The reputation of Terme Vigliatore as a
spa town began in 1841, when the first
spa complex was built. The source of
Venus is very well known, for centuries,
for the chemical and biological
properties of its waters, in health
treatments. Today it has become an
important wellness centre and it
welcomes many people throughout the
year.
The beach areas are called
Marchesana , Acquitta, and they
border
the
Tonnarella
and
Portorosa Village. They are very
beautiful, with many comfortable
hotels, and restaurants, where you
can try many types of meat,
cheese, very fresh fish, different
kinds of excellent pizza, homemade
ice cream and the famous granita.

Terme Vigliatore
Falcone
Falcone is also well known
for its beautiful sandy
beaches. The historical hilly
area is called Belvedere.
After Portorosa Village, the coast
continues in the town of Falcone,
another important tourist
destination.
Falcone beach
This town is specialized in fishing,
and tourist-related services.
The town of Falcone

Oliveri is the third town of our Institute,
and it is placed just below Tindari.
Tindari and Marinello
Oliveri Castle
As the sea became less productive,
the town turned to tourism. The
fishing area has now become a
tourist complex. Oliveri now has
many
hotels,
guesthouses,
restaurants and campsites.
The natural beauties of Oliveri are
concentrated along the coast. The
Lido di Marinello between Tindari
and Capo Milazzo is part of the
'Lakes of Marinello Reserve', and is
an example of a salty coastal
environment in north-eastern Sicily.
The lakes of the reserve are an ideal
habitat for the nesting of several
species of bird including kestrels,
ravens, the rare peregrine falcon,
and the herring gull.
The beaches are sandy and the
emerald sea is crystal clear. Every year
thousands of tourists come to visit it.
Oliveri also has a historical center and
an ancient castle.
The archaeological site of Tindari
We are sure that you will like our area
because the weather is usually mild and
the people are very warm and friendly.
