R OCKINGHAM CHURCH OF CHRIST I NC. SOUND CHRIS IAN 10th July 2016 Pastor Cohen Watson will bring us today’s message titled: “WHEN LIFE REALLY HURTS...” Scripture readings: PSALMS 88 (& PSALM 13) FEEDBACK ON TWO SERVICES It’s now been four months since we have moved to two Sunday morning services, and we praise God for the growth we have seen in this time. The Elders would appreciate any constructive feedback or suggestions you have about how you think our Sunday gatherings are functioning. Feedback forms are available in the foyer, and completed forms should be placed in the box provided over the next couple of weeks. Pastor Cohen OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD If you would like to participate in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, more shoe boxes are available in the foyer this morning. Each box is given as an expression of the love of God and each child also receives a gospel booklet and is invited to participate in a discipleship program through their local church. Packed shoe boxes need to be returned by early September, along with $9 to cover postage, in order to ensure they reach their intended destinations in time. For more information, please contact Helen Brennan or visit samaritanspurse.org/occ PLAYGROUP — HELP NEEDED PLEASE! If you are willing to help in the kitchen or on the Rego Desk at PlayGroup on Thursday mornings (during term time) please speak to Tim Pearce (PG Coordinator) — mobile no. 0438 916 742 or email [email protected] GOD CARES FOR YOU “God is not the author of confusion but of peace” - 1 Corinthians 14:33 Who of us has not asked in times of affliction and difficulty — does God care for me? The Psalmist said, “Refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul” (Psalm 142:4 KJV). Martha, over-concerned with her workaday duties, said to Jesus, “Lord, do You not care?” How many faithful, loving mothers, overwhelmed by the burdens of motherhood, have cried anxiously, “Lord, do You not care?” That question is forever answered in those reassuring words of Peter: “He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). This is the Word of God. Even if the world passes away it will not change. You can be confident God cares for you. If He didn’t, would He have sent Christ into the world to die for you? Of course not! That is why you can always turn to Him for the strength and encouragement you need. Yes, life can be overwhelming at times. But when it is, remember this: God knows what you are facing, and “He cares for you”. PRAISE AND PRAYER POINTS uPraise God for the coming return of Jesus Christ, the hope of the resurrection, and a new heavens and a new earth where suffering is no more and righteousness dwells. uPray that God will help you to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12). uPray for those struggling with health or age, including: Sue Dixon (still recovering from her operation), Rose Oates, Shirley Hammond, Joyce Sullivan, Elaine Watts-McKiroy, Trevor Booth and others. uPray for our ministry leaders and teams as they plan and prepare for the coming term, and that they will be refreshed and refocussed in proclaiming the great news of Jesus Christ. uPray that God will strengthen our marriages and families in loving one another the way Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. Pray too that God will encourage those who live on their own. uPray for our government leaders – that they will honour Jesus as Lord and will have the wisdom and courage to make decisions that are good and godly. uPray for brothers and sisters who are suffering because of their faith in Jesus Christ. SAYING GOODBYE Judy Mitchell has been part of our fellowship here for the past year and will be moving to Esperance next week. Please pray that God will help Judy settle in to her new location and know that He will meet all of her needs as she looks to Jesus and relies on Him. Judy’s contact number is 0430 001 027 or email [email protected] A NOTE OF APPRECIATION FROM ROS BLAIR AND SHIRLEY HAMMOND Both ladies (individually) would like to thank their church friends for their prayers, “get well” cards, phone calls and visits during their respective times of recovery and recuperation. They feel truly blessed and loved. WOMEN'S ENCOURAGEMENT GROUPS There will be a new encouragement group commencing on Friday, 22nd July at 9:30am, meeting monthly. The group will be held at 20 Delaney Parkway, Port Kennedy. There are several groups that meet either monthly or fortnightly. All women are encouraged to be involved in a group, as they enable women to grow together, support, pray and have fellowship with each other (they are not Bible studies). If you would like to be part of the new group or join an existing group, for more information please speak with Barbara Kester 9593 6194. FEDERAL ELECTION (from Monty Edwards) In our Brand electorate the Christian candidates for the lower house received a combined 9% of the total, not much less than a well-known Greens candidate. Tuesday's "West Australian" reported: "In WA, the Australian Christians achieved their best result on record, picking up about 2.6% of the primary vote." A thankyou to the total of about twenty couples and individuals from our own church who served with Australian Christians at five different polling places in Brand. Please continue to pray for the outcome of this election and for those who represent us in our parliaments and also for the courage to be true to our convictions as Christians in the face of indifference or even hostility.
