Business Update
Dear Associates,
This month, Emergenetics International
formalized an exciting new relationship with
InVision Group, a training company based
in Hong Kong, to service the areas of Hong
Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and Greater China.
While we have operated in Hong Kong for
some time, this is our first true introduction
into the greater region. This relationship is
significant for a couple of reasons.
First, like all of our international partners, we have partnered with
an established company that has a proven track record of industry
success. InVision has a strong network of clients and impressive
facilities to conduct Emergenetics training within the region. Its
leaders share our values and are obsessed with quality and service.
InVision is also focused on growth and looks to expand to 20 offices
within Greater China by 2020. With our recent growth, these are
qualities that we look to encourage and support.
Second, this partnership signifies our first formal step into Greater
China. With over 1.3 billion people (as of 2013), China is an emerging
superpower and the world’s second largest economy. It is a key
strategic market in our international plans and pivotal to our future
growth.
At the same time, China is a fairly unknown entity to most Americans,
especially in the realm of business. Since our expansion into Asia
in 2005, we have patiently waited to enter China to ensure we
developed a proper partner and strategy to approach this market.
We have explored various opportunities before, but none of these
options met our needs. When I was introduced to InVision’s CEO,
Chris Lam, in October, 2013, it became clear that he is a true
visionary, who is dedicated to improving the lives of others. As I
have met some of his colleagues, they reflect this same passion as
well. Terence Quek, CEO of Emergenetics International - Asia saw
these same qualities and synergy with our company and it quickly
became quickly apparent that we found the right partner to lead us
into China.
Partnering with InVision and entering China is truly a defining
moment for Emergenetics International, and one that we will reflect
upon for some time. I hope you get a chance to meet them soon and
experience these amazing people.
Best,
Morgan

News From Emergenetics International - Asia
Dear friends,
It has been a busy but fruitful 2nd quarter in
the Asia-Pacific region, and we hope it has
been a meaningful one for you too!
Since the last newsletter in March, we have
continued growing the Emergenetics family of
Associates here in Asia Pacific through several
Certification workshops in Singapore and
Japan, and for the first time – in Seoul, Korea
(which was held at one of the most prestigious art galleries!).
As part of our strategy to generate greater awareness for Emergenetics,
we were featured on a radio talk show on Singapore’s prime news radio
938LIVE. We also collaborated with Singapore’s Speak Good English
Movement to hold a special Meeting of the Minds session entitled
‘Mind Your Language’ for close to 60 professionals across the people
and public sectors. The session, which gives delegates strategies for
effective communication in the workplace, was held at the National
Museum of Singapore. We also produced a booklet (also titled “Mind
Your Language”) for distribution to professionals and executives. We’re
honoured to be a partner of this national movement in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Associate engagement remains our key focus. With the
support of the SCOOP Committee, we organized two more SCOOPEG
sessions which saw even bigger turnout. Special thanks to our Associates
Anne Yeo, Andy Pan, Lee Ming Ying, and Cathy Johnson for leading
the panel discussion on the topic of “Comparing Emergenetics with
Other Tools - What is and What is not?” and Sanjay Mehta for sharing
on “Emergenetics and Personal Change”. To ensure our Associates get
to upgrade their skills and knowledge, we held the second Qualitative
Workshop for the year, and also an EG Sales Training workshop.
Our training space (Level 2@EGI-A) at our Keong Saik Road office in
Singapore has continued to serve us well and allowed us to serve our
Associates and customers in our very own way. If you’re looking for a
space for meeting or training, come speak to us. As always, Associates
get priority!
Speaking of Associates, we know our various Country Reps have been
ramping up their effort to promote Emergenetics and support locallybased Associates. A quick shout-out to our regional partners – Sidd and
the team in Indonesia, Shin, Yas and Nina in Japan, Hyuen Jeong and
the team in Korea, and Sangeeta and the team in Malaysia – thank you
for working with us so seamlessly in this first half! We look forward to
scaling greater heights with you!
As we continue to work to establish “Emergenetics in Every Mind”
through our three key strategies of “deepening engagement”, “expanding
outreach”, and “widening exposure”, we know that our Associates play
a big part, especially on social media. As such, we would like to invite
more of you to connect with us through:
•
Facebook
•
LinkedIn
•
Twitter
•
Emergenetics Blog
… and stay tuned to our monthly e-newsletter InterWEave as it is chockfull of bite-sized information that appeals to each of our preferences!
Till our next newsletter, here’s wishing you a great second half of 2014
as you continue to journey on with us with a Whole Emergenetics
Approach – we know that we will all be more productive and effective
that way!
Emergenetically yours,

News From Emergenetics International - Europe
Dear Emergenetics Friends,
In the last few months, we have focused our
attention on many activities across Europe.
We’re pleased to share them with you in this
newsletter.
March and April were busy months, with the
organization of four Emergenetics Certification
workshops. We held the third successful
Certification workshop in Cambridge, UK, after
which we welcomed 7 new Associates to the EGI global family. The very
first Certification workshop in Malmö, Sweden, was a great success.
Thanks to Marie Unger from the US office for facilitating this workshop
and supporting us. The Emergenetics journey in Scandinavia has started,
and we are very happy to have the first 10 Associates in Sweden. We
concluded the Certification sessions for the first half of the year with an
additional two workshops in the Netherlands.
This May we had our first Marketing Strategy Meeting with our country
representatives in Europe. The purpose of this meeting was to introduce
the refined Emergenetics brand, create discussions about target
audiences and marketing touch points, look into different social media
approaches, and most of all, to share experiences. It was an experiential,
educational and fun meeting, and we are looking forward to holding a
second one at the end of this year.
In regards to the new Europe webpages, Zischa Byron (Marketing
manager Europe) has worked together with Christian Hardy
(Emergenetics Associate) to create a short animation about what
Emergenetics stands for and what value we deliver to people, families,
communities and organizations. The animation focuses on our main
components and our signature product, the Emergenetics profile. It will
be shown on all our European Country homepages to connect with our
Associates and clients in their own languages!
We are very excited about the start of a monthly newsletter and a
monthly Associate newsletter for our UK Associates. It’s all about
connecting and engaging! Keep up the fantastic work Kylie Seaman
(Business development manager for First Ascent).
We’ve received exciting news from our business partner in Sweden,
and we’re very happy to inform you about a new addition to the
Emergenetics Scandinavia team. Ms. Charlotte Nilsson has started in
March as Managing Director at Alite Management and is in charge of
all Emergenetics operations. We have been very pleased having her on
board, and we are looking forward working with her moving forward.
Charlotte, welcome to the Emergenetics family!
We are also very exited about the new projects that the global marketing
team, under the leadership of Mark Miller, is currently working on. The
Emergenetics brand refinement, New website and Project X. We hope
to start soon with the translations of the country webpages, which has
been our main focus for quite some time. All these projects are in the
final stages now, and we hope you will be there with us when they’re
ready!
Of course we have not forgotten about creating awareness and
connecting with our Associates & clients via our Facebook page and
Twitter account. Share with us your experiences with Emergenetics!
We’re always happy to know what you’re up to. So “Keep connecting,
keep sharing and give before you ask”.
Best personal regards.

Emergenetics International Receives Colorado Companies to Watch Award
Emergenetics International has been named one of the 2014 Colorado Companies
to Watch. On Friday, June 20th, Dr. Geil Browning, Founder and CEO, and Morgan
Browning, President and COO, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the
Awards Ceremony and Gala held at the Denver Marriott City Center. Both the Denver
and New York offices attended the ceremony to celebrate the honor.
This is a significant milestone for the company that began in 1991 with Dr. Browning
working as an independent trainer from her home office, and has grown into an
international organization with headquarters in Asia and Europe, regional offices in
over 30 different countries, and over 1,800 certified Associates. Described as “change
agents”, “movers and shakers”, and “the best and brightest”, the Companies to Watch
program honors second-stage Colorado companies each year in recognition of their
development of valuable products and services, creation of quality jobs, enriching
communities, and creating new industries.

The Evolution of Emergenetics International - Our New Branding & Positioning
Revealing Preferences. Realizing Potential.

Emergenetics International - Greater China Established
We’re happy to annouce that we now have an office in Greater China!
As of 1 June 2014, Dr Chris Lam has signed a long term contract with our
Asia Pacific Headquarters and has assumed the role of CEO, Emergenetics
International-Greater China. Chris will be building a dedicated team to
further expand the reach of Emergenetics into the Greater China region
including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and mainland China and to support
the work of Emergenetics Associates based in the region.
Greater China. We’re excited Chris will be taking our current strategies of
expanding outreach, widening exposure, and deepening engagement to
a greater level. This will translate into greater support for our current
and future Emergenetics Associates in that region.”
All of us in the global Emergenetics International family congratulate
Chris on his appointment and wish him the very best on this Emergenetics
journey!
Chris first came to know about Emergenetics in 2013 and became even
more passionate after reading Geil’s book “Emergenetics: Tap Into The
New Science of Success”. He then attended certification in Denver in
2013 and delved into discussions with our Asia Pacific office to play a
much bigger role. In the months that followed, he was responsible for
creating numerous Meeting of the Minds workshops in Hong Kong,
Macau, and Foshan, China, bringing Emergenetics to more than 350
minds. Such is the dedication, resourcefulness and effectiveness of
Chris, who has also grown a transformative training business in China.
To date, his training group InVision has positively impacted more than
100,000 lives across the greater China region.
“We are truly honoured and proud to have Chris join our Emergenetics
family to assist our Asia Pacific office in supporting China-based
Associates and to bring Emergenetics further throughout the Greater
China region. Having interacted with Chris in person while he was here
in Denver for his certification program, I found Chris to be an authentic,
talented, and committed leader, and someone whose values are aligned
with ours. I have full confidence that Chris will do an excellent job in
upholding the name of Emergenetics in Greater China, and help bring
us closer to our global vision of “Emergenetics In Every Mind”. I wish
Chris every success on this journey and ask that you give him your fullest
support, the way you have supported me and my global team,” says Geil
Browning, Founder and CEO, Emergenetics International.
“I’m excited that Chris is leading the development of Emergenetics
in Greater China,” says Morgan Browning, President and COO,
Emergenetics International. “In my interactions with Chris, I am most
impressed by what Chris has done to build up his transformative training
business with quality, professionalism, and effectiveness. I welcome
Chris onboard and look forward to a great partnership with him.”
The Asia Pacific office based in Singapore is now working very closely
with Chris to help him set up the office and team in a way that is
aligned to the global Emergenetics mission and values. He has already
started renovations for an office space in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong,
which is expected to be ready in July 2014. He will also be translating
all the content of Emergenetics into simplified and traditional Chinese.
Meanwhile, business support for Associates doing work in China
continues to come from the Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.
“This is indeed the opening of an exciting chapter for us in Asia Pacific,”
says Terence Quek, CEO of Emergenetics International-APAC. “It’s our
privilege and honour to have Chris take on the role of Country Rep for
Dr Chris Lam and Dr Geil Browning at the Denver
Certification in November 2013.

Test Your Emergenetics Certification Knowledge
Category: Language
Learning to speak non-judgmentally about each Emergenetics attribute
and the different profile types helps Associates to guard against
stereotyping or labeling. To value differences effectively, new Associates
often recognize that they benefit from a heightened focus on their
language. Yet, even seasoned Associates can occasionally get tripped
up on their choice of words. Check out how well you do as you test your
knowledge on Emergenetics language.
Instructions: Presume that you are the Associate referenced in the true/
false statements and multiple-choice questions below. For statements
1—6, mark either true (T) or false (F) and for questions 7—10, select the
letter that best answers each question. Then, compare your responses
to the answers on page 11.

2014 ASTD Conference Reflections
By Mark Miller
Vice President of Marketing
Self-awareness and adaptability might not have been the official themes
of the 2014 ASTD International Conference and Exposition in Washington
DC but these were themes that we heard again and again. To anyone
involved in talent development, these are highly visible topics; but how
often do we take a step back ourselves? How do we as individuals and as
a company become more self-aware and grow our capabilities to adapt?
This conference was a way to do this, as well as to build our global brand
to a core audience set.
The Monday morning kick off with Arianna Huffington aligned with this
idea. She painted a picture of an unrelenting business landscape, where
companies must manage change constantly. And while there are many
key things that we can do to help with the change process – establish
a vision, communicate with all levels, examine internal structures –
ultimately, it comes down to the individual. Unless I choose to take
action, nothing is going to change.
Luckily, we have a choice, and we don’t just have to let change happen…
embrace it with purpose and intent. What is the easiest way to make
this happen? Start with just one thing. And then do it again. And again.
Be the person who changes an attitude, a process, or a culture.
The Emergenetics International global team was well represented at ASTD
with members of the offices in Asia, North America, and Europe in attendence.
Huffington inspired us to redefine success and thrive in the face of
challenges. She challenged people to think about what success really
looked like and developed 4 pillars:
1. Take charge of your career. Don’t let other people set goals for you.
1. Wellbeing: increases our ability to prepare and respond to change,
and is an express elevator to the top. Where to start? Find quiet
time, focus on just one task at a time, get just 30 more minutes of
sleep.
4. Be flexible- you always have a choice in how you react to the
challenges life presents.
2. Wisdom: it’s not about intelligence, but how you are feeding your
mind. Start with what you want to achieve in the world, not what
the world wants to tell you.
3. Wonder: there is a purpose to what I am doing. Life is not just about
ourselves.
4. Giving: a shortcut to happiness that has the same impact on a
person as the feeling we get from an increased income. Focus on
the “go-givers” in our world not just the “go-getters”.
This really resonated with our team, as we’re always looking to be more
innovative and more productive. However, nothing kills creativity faster
than burnout. But if you focus on what is good, you have a scale to
replicate it. Her four pillars inspired us to examine our own lives, address
possible areas that could lead to burnout, and make the decision to
thrive.
Tuesday morning, Martha Soehren, SVP Chief Learning Officer of
Comcast, reminded us that if we are thriving, our organization will
too. Soehren shared four lessons from her own career to help us in our
own professional development:
2. Set small, specific goals with realistic objectives.
3. Be bold and take calculated risks.
Finally, General Stan McChrystal capped the notion of self-awareness
and change, by reminding us that life isn’t always what we expect it to
be. Leaders have two choices – adapt and succeed or fail. And adaptive
leadership starts with adaptive learning. You have to learn what it takes
to be successful but things change, and because we can’t predict the
future, we must find a way to adapt to change as it happens.
The key to adapting to change as it happens is Scaling Adaptability –
or combining shared consciousness with empowered execution.
1. Shared Consciousness: Do you have a tribe of tribes or a team
of teams? Focus on communication within the group. Trust and
common purpose must exist in order for many groups to work
together cohesively.
2. Empowered Execution: it’s not about de-centralized power, but
about giving your team the insight into the way you think, the
knowledge they need to make decisions, and empowering them to
use that information. Create an environment that fosters growth.

2014 ASTD Conference Reflections
What excited us the most was that we could see Emergenetics in everything
we heard. As I see what this can bring for our global marketing and
branding, I see a distinct tie to our unique value proposition. Emergenetics
provides a clear path to success: Understanding > Empowerment > Action
> Improved Performance.
The best way we can prepare ourselves for a changing future is by knowing
where our strengths lie, what gives us energy, and the personal strategies
we can use for improving our interactions with others. By revealing our own
preferences for thinking and behaving, we can fully realize our potential as
leaders, educators, and talent developers. And we can realize our potential
as an organization.
Emergenetics International - Asia Profiles: Charles Law
Manager of Talent Management, Hilton Worldwide
Charles Law has been with
Hilton Worldwide for the past
ten years and worked in more
than 30 countries and cities.
He conducts in-house training
for the global management
development program in China.
Since 2013, Emergenetics has
been incorporated into the hotel
chain’s global Management
Development Program (MDP)
to enhance the whole learning
experience.
Hilton Worldwide’s MDP is a
training program for senior
management staff members to
better understand themselves
and their peers so that they
can effectively communicate
within the organization. Through Emergenetics, these staff members
better learn to understand their leadership preferences and blind
spots, and learn to use techniques to maximize individual and team
performance.
Charles was first introduced to Emergenetics in 2012 during their HR
Conference in China where he and his colleagues had the opportunity
to learn more about themselves through their Emergenetics Profile.
He shared that Emergenetics has made a great impact in his personal
and professional life, despite its simplicity. Not only has it deepened
his self-awareness, it has also strengthened the communication
and relationship of the people he works with. Subsequently, he has
been recommending it to the people around him and has indeed
witnessed better communication among them.
“Emergenetics’ Meeting of the Minds
workshop is one of the best programs I
have attended to understand myself better.
Through it, I have learnt how to use my
strengths to help others,” said Charles as he shares his
experience of using the tool.
Effective communication is key to building stronger teams and
achieving a successful business. At Hilton Worldwide, Charles
shares that Emergenetics has been instrumental in increasing
team awareness. Team members have not only gained a deeper
understanding of one another by considering each individual’s
thinking and behavioural preferences, they also become better
equipped as leaders, taking on management roles and responsibilities
to create high performance teams.
“It is important that we do not use our
Emergenetics Profiles as an excuse,“ Charles
highlights. “Instead, we need to work together
as a WEteam and use the WEapproach.
We have to adapt to other team members’
working styles in order to achieve our
common goals.”

Science on the Brain

Neuropathologist, Scientific Advisor, Emergenetics International
electrical wave tracings are converted to color coded balls of light
traveling from one region to another, along the white matter tracts.
Gazalley. Glass Brain. The Grateful Dead. Last fall, Geil Browning
requested published images of the brain “thinking.” There weren’t
any. Six weeks ago, Adam Gazalley, founder of the Neuroscience
Imaging Center at UCSF, unveiled The Glass Brain, at GTC 2014*. The
Glass Brain Project is a 3D virtual reality video game program that
visualizes a human brain thinking in very close to real time.
The video game is specialized, which as it gets direct feedback from
the EEG, continuously adapts to new user mastery levels. At present
the glass brain is a two-person operation, with an observer watching
the user’s brain activity during the video game.
The Glass Brain is fascinating. The foundational anatomy is a
combination of fMRI, giving regional locations, and DTI (as in the
Human Connectome Project) designating the white matter pathways
connecting the regions. The unprecedented additional dynamic is
live EEG feed from a portable cap on the user’s head. The different
At the end of Gazzaley’s talk** he was joined by Mickey Hart, former
drummer of the Grateful Dead, and Tim Mullen for a live demo. Both
had on Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles. Mickey’s head was wired for
EEG and he began to play a game on a console, called NeuroDrummer,
which requires physically maintaining a drum rhythm to music, while
simultaneously virtually traveling in space, and blowing up asteroids
by hand. (http://neuroscapelab.com/projects/neuro-drummer/)
Tim sat across the stage and amazingly used just a tablet and joystick
to navigate through Mickey’s brain. The music as well as both sets
of video images – the game Mickey was playing, and Tim’s view of
Mickey’s brain - were projected larger than life on the wall behind
them.
Can you purchase these video games on Amazon or Alibaba? No.
Gazalley believes that their ultimate value is therapeutic, and will
improve cognition in old age or in persons with a whole spectrum
of brain centered deficits. He has submitted the prototypes for FDA
approval first. In five years he plans that customized games will be
available, and we will see our own brains as we play. Regular playing
will target areas of deficit and as we master game levels, we will
improve not only our game skills but how we think in real life.

Emergenetics Profiles: Stacy Tiger
VP, Sr. Manager of Talent & Organizational Development, BOK Financial
When Stacy Tiger arrived at BOK Financial
a year and a half ago, the organization was
building their corporate learning strategy
from the ground floor. It was important that
the strategy incorporate a neuroscience
and neuro-leadership component to help
explain from a scientific perspective why
people behave and think the way they do.
The Emergenetics thinking and behavioral
approach was an ideal fit.
The BOK Financial team came across the
Emergenetics Profile while seeking out a neuro-based assessment.
“Emergenetics was different. It wasn’t a “personality” profile and
the profile didn’t “attack” your personality,” explained Tiger. The
Emergenetics Profile is now a key assessment tool used at BOK Financial
because of the strength-based approach, its easy understandability,
and the idea that everyone has the ability to think using each Thinking
Attribute. When Dr. Geil Browning explained the high standards for
testing and research behind Emergenetics during Certification, Tiger
knew they had found the right tool.
BOK Financial uses Emergenetics extensively within their leadership
program. The Emergenetics Profile is used when a new manager joins
a team to help with the transition into their new role. BOK Financial
also looks at the Group Profile to help identify the strengths of a newly
formed team, and now when they form teams they are intentional
about ensuring a WEteam is represented.
Another way they use Emergenetics in their leadership program is
through individual coaching. A third of their leadership program consists
of 1-on-1 coaching; the Emergenetics Profile is a primary tool used in
these sessions. Often times coaching occurs remotely, so referencing
the Profile allows both parties to communicate effectively despite the
distance.
The Leadership 360 Assessment is also part of the leadership program at
BOK Financial. After receiving feedback from peers, superiors and direct
reports, the results of the 360 Assessment and the Emergenetics Profile
are compared. Tiger mentioned that every time they do this exercise,
the 360 assessment aligns with the Emergenetics Profile. They use this
information to identify show stoppers and strategize how to get the new
leader to the next level.
As an example, Tiger mentioned a leader who had a strong preference
in Social thinking. The Leader was great at connecting with people but
struggled with self-discipline, and this often led to execution issues.
Using the Emergenetics Profile, this leader was able to understand their
strengths and where they gain energy. Knowledge of their own Profile
and the Profiles of key members on their team empowered the leader
to know how to leverage the strengths of each individual and helped the
person to become an overall more effective leader.
Emergenetics Certification is a requirement to be a part of the Talent
Development team at BOK Financial. They currently have six Associates
with one additional member joining in June. The learning philosophy

The way BOK Financial has implemented Emergenetics tools into
their leadership program is a great illustration of the many ways
the Emergenetics Profile can be used within an organization. The
importance of self-awareness and team dynamics that is highlighted
in BOK Financials’ strategy is a great fit with Emergenetics concepts.

Cognitive Collaboration
The New Competitive Advantange
“946 decision makers from companies of various sizes in the U.S.,
Europe, and Asia… Demonstrated collaboration was found to be the
most important indicator of a company’s overall performance.”*
Emergenetics International is proud to present our new interactive
workshop: Cognitive Collaboration - The New Competitive Advantage.
This workshop was designed to introduce new people to Emergenetics
concepts, allow Associates to take a deeper dive into a familiar topic,
and explore the benefits of cognitive collaboration.
Workshop participants explore how cognitive diversity exists in the
workplace and discover new ways to make teams more collaborative.
The objectives of the Cognitive Collaboration workshop are to:
• Identify the cognitive diversity within organizations
• Uncover the link between cognitive diversity and cognitive
collaboration
• Improve team and organizational performance by leveraging
cognitive diversity
• Create higher engagement through activating team member’s
natural strengths
• Take away tools including a quick hit diagnostic to identify and
leverage individual and team strengths
Workshop participants also leave with a job aid that helps them
identify if their team is cognitively diverse by observing key phrases and
behaviors. Flip the job aid over and discover questions to consider if a
team is lacking in an area.
The inaugural Cognitive Collaboration workshop was held in Denver
on April 17th, 2014. Tom Reed, Emergenetics International VP of
Product Development, facilitated the workshop for 22 local learning and
