JOB SUMMARY
You will be responsible for leading the Student Association and representing all of its
members at a college, regional and national level. You will take a lead responsibility
in representing all students in areas of learning and teaching. As the Student
President you will be the Chief Executive Officer of the Student Association.
MAIN DUTIES
The following is an outline of the main duties:
 Be the prime representative of students liaising and working with the College
on any matters affecting students
 Be an active member of the Glasgow Clyde College Student Association and
undertake all duties efficiently, respectfully and prudently in the best interests
of all students
 Work in partnership with staff across the college to ensure that the Student
Association has an active role in enhancing the quality of learning and
teaching
 Identify appropriate voluntary Student Officer posts and their remits for
Glasgow Clyde College
 Encourage students to get actively involved in the work of the Student
Association including elections for all Student Officers and recruitment of
Class Representatives
 Take the lead role regarding organisation and training of Class
Representatives in conjunction with the relevant staff members
 Develop a strategic plan for the Student Association in partnership with the
Student Association Co-ordinator and Student Association members
 Develop a constitution for the Student Association in partnership with the
Development Officer and Student Association members
 Work with Student Association Co-ordinator to create an effective system of
self-evaluation
 Manage and support the Vice President in all aspects of their remit
 Raise the profile of the Student Association across the college

Work with College staff and local partners to provide volunteering
opportunities (VIP Project)
Ensure effective actions are taken by the Student Executive Team and
feedback is provided to the Student Association and the wider student body
Ensure effective communication of all Student Association activities and plans
are circulated to all students via different media including Facebook, Twitter,
College intranet, website, blog
Ensure a written report on Student Association activities and plans is
circulated to all students via different media including Facebook, Twitter,
College Intranet, website, blog
Ensure that the Student Executive Team and other elected Student
Representatives work together as a motivated team to respond to the needs
and aspirations of the students
Represent the students at college Board of Management meetings and other
relevant committees, reporting back to the Student Association and the wider
student body
Chair Student Executive Team meetings and ensure that decisions made are
implemented
Chair Student Association meetings and oversee the implementation of
decisions
Meet regularly with the College Principal and appropriate staff members and
report back to the Student Association and the wider student body
Monitor and control the Student Association budget in conjunction with
designated college staff
Be the official spokesperson of the Student Association to the media and
other external bodies
Work with NUS Scotland on national issues and organise delegations of
students to attend conferences and meetings
Be responsible for any other duties as required
Conditions
 Enrolled as a student for session 2014/2015 at Glasgow Clyde College or
currently employed by the college as a Sabbatical officer and eligible for
election under relevant legislation
 Able to work occasional evenings and weekends
 Must work across all college campuses
 Must comply with the nomination, campaign and elections process
 Once in post comply with all terms and conditions as outlined within the
constitution
 Undertake appropriate training and development
