MEMBER SALUTE
FRED & MELISSA FAHRENBRUCH
A life of golf…
When the Fahrenbruchs relocated to Grayson in 2006, one of
their first priorities was to find a place to play golf. Their realtor
drove them to Summit Chase and the instant they set foot in the
clubhouse, they knew they were home! Golf, golf and more golf
is the thing this couple enjoys most about their life.
Melissa, a former collegiate player at the University of Nebraska
also helped start-up the golf program while teaching at the
University of Nebraska at Omaha. To supplement her income
while teaching, Melissa worked summers with “short game”
guru, James Seickmann. Known as the Master of the Modern
Short Game, James has instructed over 80 PGA & LPGA Tour
Pros and is an eight time PGA Section Teacher of the Year.
Melissa credits her love for the game today to those summer days
of perfecting her game while working on the job.
Fred was the PA announcer for the hockey team and radio
station affiliate for the university. Fate crossed their paths when
Melissa had to hand Fred raffle tickets at a fund-raiser and
the rest is history! It was only fitting that the couple would be
married on a golf course. They were married fourteen years ago
at Fredonia Golf Club in Fredonia, Kansas. Presently, Melissa
is a Health Scientist in Childhood Obesity with the Centers
for Disease Control. Her duties with the CDC give this former
teacher a connection to her educational background. She
assists the school systems, to improve and carry out a healthier
environment for students through physical exercise and
nutritional planning and education.
Fred, now retired, was a radio personality for thirty plus years.
He was a recognizable voice on Atlanta’s True Oldies 106.7 and
Kicks 101.5. He also served in the U.S. Marines from 1970-74
and served as Embassy Duty at San Clemente. Fred plays golf
an average of four times per week. He joined the MGA this
year and has participated in several of their golf events as well
as Ed Cragin’s Wednesday Senior group. He and Melissa have
participated in several couples’ golf events at the club and enjoy
hitting the links early Saturday morning with their regular
foursome of Jeff and Beth Blalock.
Fred has two children, Andy and Amy and he and Melissa are
the proud grandparents of Dallas, Hudson, Hadley and Colton.
Fred and Melissa have two fur babies; Morgan and Lucy, their
adorable Facebook celebrity Dachshunds. Fred’s other passion is
music! He is a talented Bass player and loves blues, rock and jazz
genres. A few of the bands he has performed with are a British
blues band known as BanBoogle, The Woody’s, a Fleetwood
Mac Tribute Band and in the late sixties, was a member of The
Flock which opened for Three Dog Night and Sly and the Family
Stone.
Melissa enjoys gardening and travel; especially their frequent
golf trips to Hilton Head. As you might imagine, Fred and
Melissa are HUGE Nebraska Football fans as well as the
University of Kansas Basketball program.
Fahrenbruchs enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the club and
especially Friday Night dining and post dinner socializing. The
friendliness of members and staff made them feel at home right
from the beginning. Ten years later, whether inside or outside,
Summit Chase is their second home!

Message from the Pro
Welcome to November!
This is the time of the year for our golf group season ending
championships. If you read through this newsletter, you’ll see the
tournament winners. I encourage you to get involved in one of these
groups, as it’s an excellent way to meet some really great people. If you
are unsure as to which group to join, stop in the pro shop, and I’ll get
you in touch with the group coordinator.
We now have some exciting merchandise additions to the golf shop.
We received the new Titleist 917 drivers, fairways and hybrids, and
we have demos for you to try. We also just received some wine, beer,
martini, and Moscow mule glasses for your favorite beverages. Stop
by and check out our new Summit Chase logo blankets perfect for
whether you’re at an outdoor tailgate or snuggling on the couch. As a
reminder, all our new merchandise makes for great Christmas gifts!
One of my goals for the club is to encourage club fittings. Proper club
fitting ensures that all members and their guests have equipment that’s
custom tailored to their body type and golf swing. We just received
those new Titleist clubs. Let’s find one that is perfect for you!
It’s been great getting to know everyone over the past few months.
Stop by my office if you have any questions. See you on the links!

What a contrast we have had this year compared to last year in regards to rain. In the first
SWING
nine months of last year we had 46.75” of rain compared to 25.95” over the same period this
year. Over twenty inches of rain is quite a large difference. I am not sure if we have ever seen that
much difference from one year to the next. I am sure everyone has felt this impact in their own
lawns as we have on the golf course. On another note: we are needing your help in finding who is
damaging our greens by making divots. Most of the time these are done near that day’s hole location
and appear to be done by a putter. This is damaging our greens and takes several weeks to recover. If
you come to a green that has any type of these marks, please contact the pro shop immediately. This
will allow us to pinpoint the exact time line of when this is happening and hopefully identify the
person causing this despicable feat. If you witness someone doing this, please let us know so that we
can take appropriate action. This is something that will need your assistance if we are to provide the
best putting greens around.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to stop me on the course, call at
770-972-2857, or email [email protected].
Thank you,

2016 GWINNETT CUP
On a very windy day Friday, October 21 the
Summit Chase Team brought the Gwinnett
Cup back home! The Gwinnett Cup is an
annual challenge match between the 4
major private clubs in southern Gwinnett
County. Teams from Summit Chase,
Berkeley Hills CC, Northwood CC and the
Legends at Chateau Elan, comprising their
best players and pros, compete in a gross
stroke play cumulative score team event.
SCCC selects their players via the club
championship with the top 15 finishers, 3
captain’s picks and the pros.
Congratulations to the following men for
their participation: Greg Bender, Don
Britt, Mark Cain, Kirk Cave, Michael
Collins, Eric Day, Tommy Fowler, Jerry
Hause, Larry Harris, Kenneth Herren,
Colin Hunt, Quincy Jones, Carson Keller,
Brad Keller, Scott Kennedy, Tim Miller,
Gene Siller, Bobby Still, Mark Sweeney,
and Richie Taylor.
NOTEWORTHY
Each year, the Wednesday Whackers
Ladies Golf group celebrates the end
of their season with a Championship/
Charity Golf event. The weeks leading
up to the event, this group of thirty plus
ladies combine their efforts to raise money
for a local charity by means of monetary
donations and a raffle drawing. This
year the Whackers raised funds for the
Multiple Sclerosis of Georgia and were
supported in their efforts by many of
our members and golfers, especially The
Wardlaw Group who contributed in a
large way. The Whackers wish to extend
their sincere gratitude and thanks to all
those that helped with their endeavor and
because of your generosity they collected
proceeds totaling $2,280 for this worthy
cause. Thank you to all the ladies that
participated in this event and especially
to Mary Macaulay for her dedication and
commitment to our ladies’ golf program.
