“Drive Like Your Kids
Live Here”
See Form
on Page 3
Dangerous driving behavior, particularly at excessive speeds, can be a problem on our
streets. Though Braddock Avenue is a major arterial route, it is also primarily residential and
not designed for speeds over 25mph; likewise, the side streets of Regent Square are often
narrow and have limited sight lines, and even 25mph is too fast. A gentle reminder for drivers to slow down can help keep everyone safe. To that end, we’d like to call your attention to
a helpful yard sign. The nonprofit organization Drive Like Your Kids Live Here offers
18”x24” weather-resistant signs with this message at drivelikeyourkidslivehere.com for
$11.99 each. An alternate version, Drive Like Your Pets Live Here, is also available.
The members of the South Braddock Traffic, Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Committee have
been working diligently to make Regent Square safer and more pedestrian- and bicyclefriendly. You can help by promoting the message that driving responsibly can save a life. 

Shady Lane School Gets Playground Update
A group of parent, staff and teacher volunteers met on a
beautiful Saturday in April to update the Shady Lane School
playground.
Kindergarten. There is a special summer program for children up
to 3rd grade. The school is NAEYC accredited and has a Keystone Star 4A rating.
Led by school Facility Manager R.W. Ripley and Educator Susan
Cooper, projects ranged from gardening and painting to pouring
concrete for a bicycle track.
Families interesting in enrolling their children can contact the
school at (412) 243-4040 or visit www.shadylane.org to learn
more.
Planning for the playground update began months ago, gathering
input from the children of Shady Lane School on what they
would want in an outdoor play space. Then teachers, parents,
and a playground specialist built on those ideas to dream up a
developmentally-appropriate playground.
There is still work to be done, but the children are already enjoying the handiwork of the volunteers.
Established in 1966, Shady Lane School provides quality early
childhood education for children age two until they enter
