Duram DTM (Direct To Metal) is a premium quality, all-in-1 metal paint that offers an elegant
finish with excellent protection. This enamel paint can be applied on a variety of metal and
galvanized surfaces and acts as a primer, undercoat, anti-rust coating and topcoat. DTM is
available in an attractive hammered or smooth finish. Its quick drying formula makes application
easy. DTM provides a long-lasting UV and weather resistant barrier for new or rusted* metal.

SURFAC E PR E PA R AT I O N
• Abrade smooth and shiny surfaces with coarse sand paper to ensure good adhesion.
• Ensure all substrates are thoroughly clean, sound, dry and free from any contaminants such as dirt, mill
scale, salt, algae and grease.

Rusted metal or galvanized iron:
• Abrade surface lightly and remove any surface rust or mill scale by sanding, wire brushing, with a
chipping hammer, or sandblasting (sandblasting to SA2½ with a 40 to 50 profile gives the best results) to a sound metal.
• Clean away sanding dust and dirt with water.
• Clean away grease and oil with Duram NS2 Galvanized Iron Cleaner according to instructions.
• Rinse thoroughly with water until a water break-free surface is attained and allow to dry.
• Treat remaining rusted areas with Duram NS1 Rust Buster according to instructions.
New metal or Galvanized Iron:
• New galvanized iron is covered with a temporary protective oil which needs to be removed.
• Clean away this protective oil and other grease or dirt with Duram NS2 Galvanized Iron Cleaner
according to instructions.
• Rinse thoroughly with water until a water break-free surface is attained and allow to dry.
• Abrade smooth and shiny mild steel, wrought iron and stainless steel surfaces with coarse sand paper
to ensure good adhesion, rinse with water and allow to dry.
Previously painted metal surfaces:
• Paint a test patch of Duram DTM and check for a reaction after the DTM has dried. If DTM does not dry
or there is blistering, remove all old paint before applying DTM.
• Remove loose, flaking paint and clean away grease and dirt with Duram NS2 Galvanized Iron Cleaner
according to instructions.
• Abrade smooth and shiny metal surfaces with coarse sand paper to ensure good adhesion, rinse with
water and allow to dry.
Non ferrous metal surfaces (aluminium, Zinc, Copper and Brass):
• Clean away grease and dirt with Duram NS2 Galvanized Iron Cleaner according to instructions.
• Rinse thoroughly with water until a water break-free surface is attained and allow to dry.
• Abrade smooth and shiny metal surfaces with coarse sand paper to ensure good adhesion, rinse with water and allow to dry.
A PPLI CAT I O N
• Do not apply Duram DTM to hot substrates.
• Stir DTM thoroughly before use.
For brush and roller application:
• Allow 2 hours drying time between coats.
• Ensure all edges and corners are sufficiently covered.
• Apply two coats to ensure adequate dry film thickness.
• For the hammered finish Duram DTM must be carefully applied to small areas at a time using short paint strokes. Do not retrace or overpaint until DTM is dry as this will smudge the hammered finish. Application of a test patch is recommended.

For spray apllication:
• Add 15% of Duram DTM Brush Cleaner and Thinners and stir lightly.
• Spray gun must be set at 25/35 psi.
• Apply in 4 thin coats allowing 1 hour between coats.
• For the hammered finish Duram DTM must be carefully applied to small areas at a time. Do not retrace or overpaint until DTM is dry as this will smudge the hammered finish. Application of a test patch is recommended.

Additional utensils/products may be required in the preparation of surfaces.
I M PO RTA NT
• Do not apply Duram DTM to hot substrates. Ambient and surface temperatures must be between 10ºC and 35ºC during application.
• If necessary avoid painting outdoors during the hotter parts of the day.
• The hammered finish texture will vary due to temperature, substrate and method of application. Application of a test patch is strongly recommended.
• The smooth silver may show brush strokes if a hard bristle brush is used.
• Make sure that edges and corners are properly coated to prevent chipping and moisture access.
• Do not apply if rain is imminent.
• For coastal areas it is essential to remove the salt contamination by thoroughly rinsing with clean water directly
before applying DTM.
