The Best Communities for
Music Education designation
is awarded to districts that
demonstrate outstanding
achievement in efforts to
provide music access and
education to all students. Our qualification for the recognition was measured by a
series questions regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class
participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and
community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials
and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

According to the NAMM Foundation, the award recognizes that FMS is leading the
way with music learning opportunities as outlined in the new federal education
legislation, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The legislation recognizes
music and the arts as necessary elements of a well-rounded education for all
children.

Coordinator of
Fine Arts:
Our community is familiar with the hard work our educators put into the
productions that all of our music students present for their learning and our
entertainment. These educators also provide in-depth education towards state and
national standards while preparing for productions. The students of FMS receive an
an all-encompassing music education. This attitude prevails through all fine arts
education in Farmington Schools. We as a community and district should take pride in our teachers and
students. Bravo!

Llyr Biehler and Nick Mayeux Act Out
Biehler and Mayeux also have been involved in the
Farmington High School Drama programs since
their freshman years. With the guidance and
direction of Steven Clark, theater director, they have
blossomed into talented comedic and dramatic
actors. Their repertoires include roles in Mousetrap,
Beowulf, The Hobbit, Shakespeare’s Macbeth,
Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and Ward’OZ, the
futuristic adaption of The Wizard of Oz.
Submitted by Debra Mayeux
Llyr Biehler and Nick Mayeux will represent
Farmington Municipal Schools this summer in the
International Thespian Festival at the University of
Nebraska in Lincoln. The Farmington High School
students earned an opportunity to perform at the
festival after receiving superior marks on a dramatic
duet at the New Mexico Thespian Festival earlier
this year. They performed an adaptation of C. S.
Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters.
Biehler and Mayeux both are members of the
International Thespian Society’s Troupe 381.
Mayeux also is a member of the National Honor
Society. These young men thank their drama
teacher, Steven Clark, and Farmington Municipal
Schools for the opportunity to develop their talents
and participate in the upcoming Thespian Festival.
Biehler, a senior, and Mayeux, a junior, have been
collaborating on artistic endeavors for the past two
years. During his freshman year, Mayeux wrote a
radio drama, which last year, Biehler adapted into a
