“Serving Our City with Pride” CORONA FIRE DEPARTMENT WEEKLY UPDATE June 11, 2012 through June 17, 2012 Incident Totals Fires: 8 EMS/Rescue calls: 138 Hazardous Conditions: 4 Public Service calls: 16 Good Intent: 15 False Alarms: 3 Total: 184 SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS: Advance Life Support (ALS) Recap: • 109 patients were treated. • 94 patients required an ALS assessment. • 26 patients required ALS medication administration. • 20 patients received a full cardiac assessment and 12-lead electrocardiogram. • 7 patients required paramedics to continue care en route to the hospital. 6/12 at 1045 Hours, Traffic Collision with fire, Sampson and Radio Road A vehicle went off the I-15 bridge and landed on the ground below adjacent to a flood channel near Sampson and Radio. The lone occupant was able to get out of the vehicle with minor injuries, and the vehicle caught fire. The fire was fought by a construction water tender that was nearby, and we completed extinguishment. The patient was transported to Riverside Community Hospital with moderate injuries. TS4 responded. “Everyone Goes Home” 6/12 at 1421 Hours, Vegetation Fire, 2725 S. Main Street We responded to a vegetation fire behind the church in a field containing orange trees and grass. The fire was reported as an illegal burn, and Engine 6 responded and found a fire being pushed by the wind toward a mobile building used as a day care. Engine 6 requested a full vegetation fire response and made a stop on the south flank. Engine 1 took the north flank, and contained the fire at about 1 acre. The cause is under investigation. E6, E1, Br3, B2, C2, P1, P4 responded. 6/13 at 1105 Hours, Heavy Rescue – Sheridan and Rincon Street Units responded to a reported trench collapse at the Watermark project. Upon our arrival we found a single patient that was pulled out of the trench prior to our arrival. The worker was in an 8 to 10 trench when a side wall collapsed on him forcing his legs into a pipe. The patient was treated and transported to Riverside Community Hospital. E2, E3, T1, SQ3, HM4, USAR1, P2, B3, and AMR responded. 6/13 at 1613 Hours, Traffic Collision, Heavy Rescue – In front of 4254 Green River Road Engine 5 arrived on scene to find a two vehicle traffic collision with on trapped victim. Engine 5 personnel were able to extricate the victim but continued the Squad and Battalion 3. Both patients were treated and transported. E5, E3, SQ3, T1, B3, AMR1 and AMR2 responded. 6/15 at 2202 Hours, Medical Aid Gunshot Wound – 1607 Cherokee Road Engine 7 responded to a reported medical aid to find one victim of a guns shot wound to the head. The patient was treated and transported to Corona Regional Hospital with two firefighters on board. The patient was eventually transferred to Riverside Community Hospital for more care. 6/16 at 1007 Hours, Child Choking - 1440 Camelot Drive, Engine 3, AMR, Corona PD A 2 year old female was found lying supine on the floor unresponsive and apneic with Corona Police Department performing chest thrusts and back blows on the floor with emotionally upset parents in the room. The child had been eating hash browns when she suddenly ran to her mother in the bedroom doing the universal choking sign. Patient's mother stated that the child began to turn blue in front of her and she didn't know what to do. Patient became unconscious and unresponsive. Patient had a Tracheostomy removed 6 months prior and was due to have the opening closed. Patient was immediately placed on her back and a towel placed under her shoulders to assist with opening her airway. Patient's respirations were assisted via bag valve mask and supplemental Oxygen continually throughout the call. Patient initially had no response to painful stimulus but began to “Everyone Goes Home” make crying noises and slight movement of her leg upon administration of saline flush. Patient was transported Code 3 to Corona Regional Medical Center. Patient's airway was suctioned and appeared to breath better. Patient's condition continued to improve throughout the transport to Corona Regional Medical Center. 6/17 at 1559 Hours, Mutual Aid Structure Fire, 2324 Corydon, Norco Engine 2 assisted Riverside County Fire with a structure fire in an abandoned house in Norco. 6/17 at 1809 Hours, Vegetation Fire, Neece and Indiana Corona Fire Department responded with Riverside County Fire to a vegetation fire, all within City limits. The fire burned up the side of the hill and was largely contained by dozer lines. Corona Fire Department placed hose lays around the entire fire and controlled it. The size was two acres. RRU sent a full response, all but two engines were cancelled en route. E2, TS4, Br3, B2, P2, RVCE13, RVCE47, RVC B9B, RVC B4 responded. Cindi attended a LT meeting in Police Department. Cindi attended Greater Valley Chamber meeting. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Engine 2, Engine 1, Truck 1 and Battalion 3 Tower training on 6/11. Fire crews had Fire RMS training at the I.T. Lab on 6/13. Truck 1 crew conducted a public education event at Station 1 on 6/13. Engine 7 crew conducted a public education event at Station 7 on 6/13. Chief 2, Battalion 3 and Prevention 1 went over ICS forms and occupant load procedures at the Police Department LT.'s meeting on 6/13. Crews participated in Telestaff / FireRMS training at I.T. classroom at City Hall on 6/14. HazMat had ASO Class at the Fire Training classroom. Truck 1 crew attended a public education event on 6/15. Various members of the Corona Fire Department and a member of Corona Police Department were honored at a Fire Employee Recognition Ceremony at the Training Center on 6/16. Brush 7 responded as part of XRI 6074C to the Highland Fire in Beaumont on 6/16. Truck 1 crew participated at Crossroad’s Church Father’s Day Celebration on 6/17. “Everyone Goes Home”
