As per directives of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, NIT
Andhra Pradesh celebrated Matribhasha Diwas/Matrubhasha Dinotsavamu (Mother Tongue Day)
on 21st February, 2017 to promote dissemination of mother tongues and to bring in depth
awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions of our country in all educational institutions.
On this occasion, various activities like elocution, debate, singing, essay writing competition,
music and dramatic performances were conducted. Hon’ble Coordinator Professor T.Ramesh
expressed his views regarding the role played by Matribhasha in one’s own thought process and
how beneficial such an act in communicating with others. He also motivated the students about
the use of mother tongue for the nation's development and also on importance of proficiency in
their respective mother tongues. Professor P.Nageshwara Rao, Head, Department of Science and
Humanities emphasized the need for using mother tongues wherever and whenever they are
required so that the linguistic traditions are upheld. Faculty members, students & staff
participated in the event with lot of enthusiasm. Some of the students recited poems and sung
songs in their respective Matribhasha such as Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, and
Telugu. Anju Anshum of II B.Tech proposed a vote of thanks.
