CHURCH OF THE SACRED HEART
Dear People of God,
Pope Francis writes in Laudato Sii,
(Our Common Home) Paragraph 185.
In any discussion about a proposed venture,
a number of questions need to be asked in
order to discern whether or not it will contribute to genuine integral development. What will it accomplish? Why? Where? When? How? For whom? What
are the risks? What is the cost? Who will pay the costs
and how? In this discernment, some questions must have a
higher priority. For example, we know that water is a
scarce and indispensable resource and a fundamental
right. This indisputable fact overrides any other assessment of environmental impact on a region.
#186 The Rio Declaration of 1992 states that “where
there are threats of serious irreversible damage, lack of
full scientific certainty shall not be used as a pretext for
postponing cost effective measures which prevent environmental degradation. This precautionary principle makes
it possible to protect those who are most vulnerable and
whose ability to defend their own interests and to assemble incontrovertible evidence is limited. If objective information suggests that serious irreversible damage may
result, a project should be halted or modified, even in the
absence of indisputable proof. Here the burden of proof
is effectively reversed, since in such cases objective and
conclusive demonstration will have to be brought forward
to demonstrate that the proposed activity will not cause
serious harm to the environment or to those who inhabit it.
#187 This does not mean being opposed to any technological innovations which bring improvements in the quality of life. But it does mean that profit cannot be the sole
criterion to be taken into account, and that, when significant new information comes to light, a reassessment
should be made, with the involvement of all the interested
parties. The outcome may be a decision not to proceed
with a given project, to modify it, or to consider alternative proposals.
#188 there are certain environment issues where it is not
easy to achieve a broad consensus. Here I would state
once more that the church does not presume to settle scientific questions or to replace politics. But I am concerned
to encourage an honest and open debate so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common
good.
Simple conservation reminders.
1) Turn off water when shaving or brushing
teeth and take shorter showers. 2) Turn off
lights and appliances when you leave a
room. 3) Dry clothes outdoors when possible.

Sharing the Gospel with Children
If you love Jesus, you will do what He asks. If someone hurts
your feelings, Jesus asks you to forgive. If someone is hard to
get along with, Jesus asks you to show love. If someone is sick,
Jesus asks you to pray. Learn from Jesus. Follow His example.
Love all people like God does.
Pray
Jesus, help me to love You enough to
do all that You ask.
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself forgiving
someone who hurt your feelings.
Mission for the Week
Make cards for the sick. Remind them
how much Jesus loves them.

MAY 21, 2017
The students are excited about
spring, the end of the school year and summer break. We will celebrate the end of
our school year with Mass and 4th Grade
Graduation on Friday, May 26, at 1:30
p.m. I find this time of year exciting as
well because it gives me the time to reflect on all the wonderful
things that have happened with the students. I know my own
faith is stronger because I had the opportunity to share experiences with your child and the rest of the students in the school.
Report cards will be ready for pick up on Monday,
June 12, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, June 13, from 7:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 14, from 7:30 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. All report cards need to be picked up and all final
bills for registration, lunch and SHARP need to be paid by
Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
Sacred Heart School is accredited by MNSAA
(Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association). The
school is required to complete an annual report in June and
every seven years a self-study to develop a school strategic
plan for renewal of accreditation status. The School Strategic
Plan & Annual report will be available June 15, 2017 for you
to review. Copies are available in the school office upon request, or on the school website: sacredheartschoolwaseca.com. We recognize the sacrifice parishioners have made
to support our Catholic school and again thank you for the gift
you have given our children of Sacred Heart. Your continued
support & prayers are appreciated.
Yours in Christ, LeAnn Dahle
We are entering into the last
week of school for 2016/2017. It has
been a busy and exciting year.
Graduation will take place on Friday,
June 26th at 9:00 am, in the Parish Center gym. All parents, grandparents and
parishioners are invited to attend. Those students heading for
kindergarten next year are very excited.
We are still taking registrations for the fall 2017/18
for regular classes. We also still have a few openings for the
summer childcare program. Have a great week.
Blessings, Miss Jenny & Miss Kathy

New Liturgical Ministers Needed
We continue to need more liturgical ministers. As our
students head off to college they will need to be replaced,
along with those who have ministered for many years and
wish to take some time off. Please pray on it and see if any
of the ministries are right for you. We need lectors, Eucharistic ministers and hospitality ministers for all Masses. Please
call the parish office if you wish to be trained as a liturgical
minister.
Community Service to the Elderly
Thank you to the 2 individuals who will be taking Communion
and saying the rosary 1 day a month at Colony Court. We
now have enough teams to take wks 1-4 each month and one
person who does the 5th week if there is a 5th Thursday.
We are also still in need of 2 or 3 new people to help with
Communion at Lakeshore Inn on Sunday mornings. This, too, is a
two person ministry as one person brings communion to the
rooms and the other stays with the residents as they view a televised Mass.
Call the office at 835-1222 with questions or if you are interested in these ministries.
The Reverend Martin T. Schaefer
invites you to participate in a Mass of
Thanksgiving celebrating the Silver Jubilee
of his Ordination to the Priesthood.
The Mass will be offered at Sacred Heart
Church Highway 56, Adams, MN, on Sunday, June 18,
2017 at 11:00am in the morning. Reception to follow in
the church hall.
Catholic Quotes:
We are not necessarily doubting that God will do
the best for us, but how painful the best will turn out to be.
CS Lewis
Eucharistic Adoration Notes
We are still in need of an adorer to take the
2:00 am Thursday morning hour of adoration. Please call
Laura at 461-3123 if you would be willing to give this a
try. We also have some openings for prayer partners for
some hours. Check the schedule in the Chapel if you are
interested in being a prayer partner or a substitute.
With spring finally having arrived, we get a
chance to watch God’s miracles come to life, in the budding of the trees, the blooming of the spring flowers, the
farmers planting for the harvest, the lengthening of the
days and the birth of the baby animals. These are all the
wonders of God’s creation. Take time to notice the
beauty that surrounds us and to thank the one responsible
for it’s creation, God.

Cemetery Regulations for Catholic Cemeteries
Memorial Day is approaching quickly. Just a reminder to you about our cemetery regulations. These
guidelines help ensure the safety of those who visit our
cemeteries and those who do the cemetery lawn care
and maintenance.
All flowers or decorations must be in elevated stands.
All stands must be in line with headstones.
Memorial Day flowers and decorations must be
removed by June 15th unless in elevated stands.
NOT ALLOWED: Dug in plants, glass, ground placed
articles of any kind, shepherd’s hooks and wire.
If flowers or decorations, not in elevated stands, are left
after June 15th, the Cemetery Committee will pick them up.
A collection will be taken up on Memorial Day to help
defray the ever increasing cost of upkeep for our cemeteries. You may use the envelope in your packet or a
white envelope marked Memorial Day. Memorial Day
Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 10:00 am,
Monday, May 29.
CHURCH OF THE SACRED HEART
ADULT FAITH FORMATION:
“Jubilee Year of Mercy”
Excerpts from the “Joy of Love”
If maturity was merely the
development of something already
present in our genetic code, not much
would have to be done, but prudence,
good judgment and common sense are dependent not on
purely quantitative growth factors, but rather on a whole
series of things that come together deep within each
person, or better, at the very core of our freedom.
Inevitably each child will surprise us with ideas and
projects born of that freedom, which challenges us to
rethink our own ideas. This is a good thing. Education
includes encouraging the responsible use of freedom to
face issues with good sense and intelligence. It involves
forming persons who readily understand that their own
lives, and the life of the community, are in their hands,
and that freedom is itself a great gift.

The Sacred Heart Education Endowment
Fund just keeps on giving! This year we
presented a check for $75,000 to the Sacred Heart Church community. Your donations to SHEEF are never spent! Every year
the interest on the principle makes a donation like this
possible. You can make a donation online, with your
church envelopes, or just drop it in the collection labeled
for SHEEF for a gift that keeps on giving!
Calling all adults of the Parish for the
Mission Trip to St. Mary’s Mission in Red Lake MN.
We have 12 open spots available for anyone who
wishes to join the youth on the summer mission trip. The trip will
take place June 5th through the 9th. Activities that we will be
doing on the trip will revolve around children, youth and the
summer school program. We will be working one on one with
students needing assistance with reading and
math in the morning and will work the afternoon with camp activities. If interested, contact
Kayla in the Faith Formation Office at 8351500/[email protected].
Fr. Jerry Peterson was our Missionary speaker last August, and made a great
impression on the parish. He has been at St.
Mary’s Mission for several years and has made a profound
difference in the lives of the people on the Red Lake Reservation. The school is thriving and
the children are bringing their
parents back to the church. It is a
K-6th grade school and filled to
capacity. Don’t miss out on this
chance to share the faith.
