Trickle Tape (T-tape) Recycling
Southern Downs Regional Council has commenced stockpiling trickle tape
(t-tape) at the Stanthorpe Waste Management Facility for recycling.
What can be recycled?
All brands of trickle tape can be received for recycling. However, the trickle tape MUST be separated
from any plastic mulch, and as much as possible, be free from organic contamination (soils, remaining
plant stems and roots).
The trickle tape will be stockpiled on-site at the Stanthorpe Waste Management Facility, and then
processed (baled) and removed from site by a recycling company as required.
What are the benefits of recycling trickle tape?
Trickle tape is a very difficult product to manage in the landfill and takes up valuable landfill space.
Trickle tape will be removed from the Stanthorpe Waste Management Facility for recycling, to be used in
the manufacture of plastic products, such as car parts for the auto industry, battery cases, plastic
furniture and other industrial plastics.
To recognise the benefits of recycling trickle tape, Council will no longer be charging disposal fees for the
disposal of trickle tape that can be recycled. It is important to note any trickle tape contaminated with
plastic mulch or with high levels of organic matter, and which cannot be recycled, will still need to be
disposed of in the landfill, and disposal fees will apply for commercial operators.
How can you become involved?
You can become involved by separating your trickle tape from other agricultural plastics, including plastic
mulch. The trickle tape can be delivered to the Stanthorpe Waste Management Facility, where the site
supervisors will advise you where to dispose of the trickle tape in the stockpile for recycling.
