Allow extra time for parking and walking to the venue. Please provide your own transportation to all events. Carpooling is recommended as some venues may have limited parking. Parents need to stay during each rehearsal and performance listed above. If carpooling, please send a note via email or a paper copy giving permission for your child to be in the care of another parent. If you are interested in being a chaperone for one of these events your child is attending, please send me an email [email protected] and I will give you more details. (Chaperones will check children in and out with parents, arrange students so they are ready to go on and off stage, take pictures/videos, etc.) If you have any artistic abilities, I will need some help with scenery and backgrounds being made for these upcoming performances. Please visit the bathrooms before each performance or event! Thank you! Additional Information specific to each event: *North Georgia Chamber Symphony Performances: The North Georgia Chamber Symphony is a local community orchestra that I am a part of and our students were invited to perform as part of their December concert series. This is an incredible opportunity for students to be featured singing 3 French Christmas Carols and a Hanukkah piece, accompanied by a string orchestra! This is definitely a first for our students. Visit this website to learn more about this group: www.northgeorgiachambersymphony.org You must be able to attend all 3 of the dates listed above in order to participate. Students will be seated in the audience with their parents during part of the performance and then line up to take their spots when signaled. (Please remind students of concert etiquette – see poem attached…) After the students sing, they will go back to sit with parents until the end. **Annie Jr. Performance (Chorus): Please refer to Annie Jr. information sheet attached for costume and rehearsal information. **December Nights Performance (3rd Grade): 4th and 5th grade chorus will join the 3rd grade for a few songs near the end of their performance and before the Annie Jr. performance. I will ask students to remain on the stage and for parents to come to the front to pick up their child(ren). 3rd grade students and their families are invited and encouraged to stay to see the chorus and their performance of Annie Jr! ***Gwinnett Gladiators Sing for Santa Night and Hockey Game: Parents need to stay with their child or any child they are responsible for until it is time to be seated in the arena. Students sing the National Anthem at the beginning and Holiday songs at first intermission. After the choirs are finished singing, we will take the chorus back out to the initial meeting spot and parents must sign out their child or any children they are responsible for. Parents will be responsible for chorus members for the remainder of the game. You may take your child back to your seat if there are empty seats around you or find a seat for your family in the section where the choirs were singing or find any empty seat in the arena for the remainder of the game if you choose to stay. (Many families leave after the singing and there will be many sections with empty seats at that time). Students in the chorus do not need to buy a ticket. Parents will need to purchase a ticket and can purchase the discounted tickets from the handout attached. Tickets and map with meeting place will be sent home with students when they arrive that the week before the game. Concert Etiquette by Denise Gagne and Denese Odgaard Welcome to our concert - we’re really glad you came. We will listen carefully - we hope you do the same. Some of us are really small - our voices aren’t too strong. If you’re really quiet - you’ll still hear - you won’t go wrong. We have a few suggestions to make this fun for all. Please turn your cell phones off so they don’t ring inside the hall. If you really have to go, please leave when there’s applause. You may enter once again - when there is a pause. Save the hoots and hollers for when you’re at the game. When you’re at a concert, it isn’t quite the same. We hope that you will stay and watch until the very end. We really will appreciate this - our thanks to you we’ll send! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In my experience, students enjoy listening to concerts of music that is familiar to them. In addition to our Chattahoochee students singing, here are some of the other pieces the North Georgia Chamber Symphony will perform at the December concerts if you would like to look up some of the pieces to play for your children between now and the concerts. The Chamber Symphony will open the concert with Aaron Copland’s The Red Pony, and Respighi’s Antique Dances and Airs, Suite 3. Dr. Benjamin S. Schoening, lyric baritone, will join the Chamber Symphony singing Simple Gifts by Copland and The Song of the Wayfarer by Gustav Mahler, and several other well-known and beautiful pieces. He will also lead our Christmas sing-along, and will perform Hugo Wolf’s Sleeping Christchild. Our Holiday selections will include The Christmas Waltz and I’ll be Home for Christmas, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Annie Jr. Information The chorus will join the 3rd graders for the conclusion of their performance and then there will be a brief intermission before the 6:00pm performance of Annie Jr. Please have all students wear their blue chorus polo and jeans while singing with the 3rd graders, then change into “costumes” as needed during the short intermission. Please keep costumes simple so the changes can be quick. Students will line up in the hallway outside the cafeteria to be ready to enter the stage prior to 6pm. There will be a parent chaperone or myself there to get everybody in order. Concluding the performance, I will ask parents to come to the stage to pick up children.
