Cut a 10cm x 20cm foam insulation board down to the size of a door using a utility knife and meter stick. (For safety purposes, we recommend wearing leather gloves when using the utility knife. Never leave the utility knife where children can pick it up.) Permission to reproduce this item is granted by Scholastic Book Fairs . ® 2. Paint the foam board green. This will be the base of the door. 3. Cut out a piece of cardboard the same width as the piece from Step 2, but only 1/4 the height. Page 1 of 3 © 2015 Scholastic Inc. 12474 • 161220 4. Apply spray adhesive to the cardboard’s surface and cover with aluminum foil, folding the excess around the edges. 5. Attach the foil panel to the bottom of the door with hot glue. 6. Cut out a 10cm x 30cm rectangle from cardboard and cover with aluminum tape. 7. Cut out a circular piece of insulation board the size of a doorknob. Paint it purple. 8. Once dry, attach the purple door knob to the metallic rectangle from Step 6 with hot glue. 9. Attach the door knob to the right side of the door, half-way up, with hot glue. 10. Out of the scrap insulation board, cut out two long ovals about 1/3 the height of the door. 11. Cover the edges of the ovals with aluminum tape. 12. Glue the eyes to the white poster board ovals, making a pair of eyes. 13. Glue the white poster board ovals to the centers of the larger insulation board ovals. 14. Cut out two blue circles from construction paper. Colour in pupils in the center of each blue circle. Cut out two small white circles from poster board and glue to the blue circles. 16. Attach the eyes toward the top of the door with hot glue. 17. Cut out four triangular teeth from white poster board and glue to the door, flush against the top of the aluminum panel. 18. Cut out a tongue from pink construction paper and glue on top of the aluminum panel. 20. Cover the strips with coloured duct tape. Tape the strips to the back of the door so that 7cm of the strip show from the front. 21. Attach the door to the wall with heavy duty VELCRO ®. 19. Cut out long strips of cardboard from a large cardboard box. The strips should be at least 10cm wide. Tape the strips together to make a frame for the door.
