Using grids – enlarging and reducing 22

Strategy
Using grids – enlarging and reducing
What to do
1 Draw an enlarged view of this
dinosaur by drawing it on the
larger grid below by:
◆ copying – square by square
what you see in die original.
The first part of the drawing
has been drawn in for you;
◆ using faint lines until you
are sure you have the right
shape.

20 minutes
You will learn:
How to use grids to help you
to draw an object larger or
smaller than the original.
You will need:
❏ HB (or softer) pencil
Doing it the ICT way
If you have access to a computer and drawing software, you can quite easily enlarge and reduce
objects on screen. You need to be careful to keep the proportions of the object the same. If you
are stretching an object; it is easy to increase the horizontal dimensions more than the vertical
dimensions and vice versa. If you are using CAD software, this is not a problem. Scan in the
picture of the dinosaur and try to enlarge or reduce it with both drawing and CAD software.
