(a) 3kgs of apples and 2kgs of oranges cost K280, and1kg of apples and 4kgs of oranges cost K260. Required: Calculate the cost of apples and that of oranges per kg. (b) 10 Marks KK Ltd will replace office machinery in three years time. It is assumed that this exercise will cost K9.0m. Required: (i) Calculate how much must be invested now, to buy this machinery in three years’ time if the interest rate is 10% (assuming there will be no withdrawals and that interest earned in each year will be re-invested). 5 Marks (ii) Assume the price of the machinery increases by 8% in the third year. (a) Study the diagram below: 36m 28m The diagram is a rectangular field which needs to be fenced with fencing panels. Each panel is 2 metres long and costs K150. Posts must be erected at each junction of the panels and each panel costs K75. A two metre gate which costs K750 is to be placed instead of one fencing panel. The posts are set inside the panels and take up no space on the perimeter. It takes 30 minutes to erect a panel together with a post. It takes 45 minutes to erect a post and to hang the gate on it.
