2014-15 Tennessee School Improvement Planning Template The final plan should be no longer than four pages. School Name: Accountability status: Analysis of last year’s final results: Gardenview Elementary Reward, Focus, or Priority if applicable. Areas of Greatest Progress: Percentage of 3rd-5th grade students scoring Proficient/Advanced in Reading/Language Arts increased by 18% (20.4% to 38.4%) Percentage of 3rd grade students scoring Proficient/Advanced in Reading/Language Arts increased 26.7% (19.7% to 46.4%) Percentage of 3rd-5th grade students scoring Proficient/Advanced in Science increased 8.6% (20.5%to 29.1%) Percentage of 3rd grade students scoring Proficient/Advanced in Math increased 11.4% (27.2% to 38.6%) Areas of Greatest Challenge: Percentage of 3rd-5th grade students scoring Proficient/Advanced in Math decreased 2.2% (26.5% to 24.3%) Underlying Reasons for Progress: Gardenview Elementary surpassed their AMO in Reading/Language Arts during the 2013-2014 school year. These gains can be accredited to 1) strong TCAP Prep Review 2) frequent utilization of Wordly Wise and Accelerated Reader 3) tutoring by highly qualified educators 4) implementation of Reading Plus and Istation interventions 5) effectively using data to plan and teach deficient skills until mastery Underlying Reasons for Challenge: Gains were not made in 3rd-5th grade Mathematics during the 2013-2014 school year. Gains in 3rd grade Math and 3rd-5th grade Science have been attributed to the following: 1) “data digs” to examine benchmark assessment data and planning strategic instruction that met the need of all students. 2) Professional Learning Community The decline can be attributed to 1) students not having essential prerequisite skills 2) a privation of rigorous instruction 3) difficulties with solving word problems and multi-step problems Goals for 201415 school year: Plan for this school year: meetings were held weekly to discuss data and planning of instruction. 3) Deficient skills were taught until mastery. AMO Targets: 3rd grade students will meet or exceed the AMO Math target of 42.4% 3rd-5th grade students will meet or exceed the AMO Math target of 29% 3rd grade students will meet or exceed the AMO RLA target of 49.8% 3rd-5th grade students will meet or exceed the AMO RLA target of 42.3% 3rd-5th grade students will meet or exceed the AMO Science target of 33.5% Key strategies to achieve goals: 1. Strategy: Focus on word problems and increase Common Core rigor in Mathematics. Implementation Plan: Use data from Common Formative Assessments to teach deficient skills until mastery Ensure that students are accurately completing iReady Math intervention Focus on Common Core State Standards to provide rigorous instruction for developing problem-solving skills PD sessions will be differentiated to meet the needs of all students PIT Crew member, PLC Coach, Master Teacher, and Learning Coaches will provide extra support to Beginning and Level I teachers Teachers will visit colleagues’ classrooms to learn new and effective practices that will improve instruction Utilize data from iReady, Discovery Education, TCAP, Common Formative Assessments, and SAT 10 to identify students by name and need in an effort to provide and recommend additional service(s). Moreover, before and Saturday school tutoring. Desired outcomes: Increase student achievement At least 29% of 3rd-5th grade students will be Proficient or Advanced on the Math portion of the 2015 TCAP Projected costs and funding sources: $5,000 Extended Contract Funds Describe how this specific strategy will help you achieve your goals for the 2014-15 school year and address areas of challenge from the past year: Students’ low level of analytical and critical thinking skills and lack of prerequisite prohibited them from properly being able to solve mathematical equations and word problems. It is our hope that executing the aforementioned strategies with fidelity will increase student achievement in the area of Math. 2. Strategy: Provide multiple opportunities for hands-on experiments/experiences Implementation Plan: Create an A/B rotational schedule that will utilize support staff to assist classroom teachers with scientific experiments Utilize Common Core libraries to develop and enhance student awareness about science Classroom teachers will attend science related PD to gain more insight as to how to increase student achievement. Integrate Science into Reading with fidelity Desired outcomes: Increase student achievement At least 33.5% of 3rd-5th grade students will be Proficient or Advanced on the Science portion of the 2015 TCAP Projected costs and funding sources: $2,000 Title I funds to replenish supplies Describe how this specific strategy will help you achieve your goals for the 2014-15 school year and address areas of challenge from the past year: Students’ lack of prior knowledge and hands-on experiences contributed to science content not being concrete. We intend to provide multiple opportunities for hands-on experiences and for students to participate in science experiments. It is our hope that executing the aforementioned strategies with fidelity will increase student achievement in the area of Science. 3. Strategy: Concentrate on phonemic awareness, incorporate Accountable Talk and students supporting their answers with evidence Implementation Plan: Implement school-wide intervention schedule Continuously re-teaching essential standards in Reading/Language Arts Utilize data from Istation, Discovery Education, Accelerated Reading, TCAP, Common Formative Assessments, and SAT 10 to identify students by name and need in an effort to provide and recommend additional service(s). Moreover, before and Saturday school tutoring. 2nd-5th grade students will utilize Accelerated Reading to promote reading School will consistently utilize Wordly Wise and TCAP Coach books to reinforce skills and increase vocabulary K-3 teachers will implement SCS Reading Initiative PIT Crew member, PLC Coach, Master Teacher, and Learning Coaches will provide support to Beginning and Level I teachers PLC Coach will offer support to all teachers Desired outcomes: Increase student achievement At least 49.8% of 3rd-5th grade students will be Proficient or Advanced on the Reading portion of the 2015 TCAP Projected costs and funding sources: $5,000 Extended Contract Funds Key benchmarks for progress on strategies: Describe how this specific strategy will help you achieve your goals for the 2014-15 school year and address areas of challenge from the past year: The number of students who were not reading on grade level as well as a deficit in Language and Vocabulary proved to be challenging during the 2013-2014 school year. It is our hope that executing the aforementioned strategies with fidelity will increase student achievement in Reading/Language Arts.
