Be able to express convincing ideas and opinions about the meanings and messages of a Shakespearean play. Be able to analyse quotations to support all of my ideas about a play. Week 1 Classwork I will:  Read, understand and perform the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.  Analyse the language of the Prologue to explore the concept of foreshadowing.  Read, understand and perform the opening of Act 1 Scene 1. Year 7 Key Terms I will learn: Act Scene Prologue Foreshadowing Character Actor Director Interpretation Performance Homework Explore your initial impressions of one of the characters from A1S1, analysing quotations to explain your ideas.
Week 2 Classwork I will:  Read the Prince's speech in Act 1 Scene 1.  Make inferences and deductions about the characters in Act 1 Scene 1, based on the language which they use.  Imagine that I am the director of Act 1 Scene 1, and make detailed notes for my actors.  Organise a performance of an extract from Act 1 Scene 1, taking on a specific role in the production. Homework Week 3 Classwork I will: 
Read A1S5 of Romeo and Juliet. 
Analyse the language of Tybalt (hate) and Romeo (love). 
Write directions for actors playing Tybalt and Romeo, linking all instructions to specific quotations. Homework Week 4 Classwork I will: 
Explore ideas and opinions about the language of love. 
Read, understand and annotate Act 2 Scene 2. 
Answer exam‐style questions on Act 2 Scene 2. Week 5 Classwork Test Week I will: 
Explore ideas and opinions about tension within families. 
Read and discuss an extract from Act 3 Scene 5, in which Juliet is insulted by her father. 
Analyse and annotate the extract.

Complete a READING SKILLS TEST on Act 3 Scene 5.
Week 6 Classwork I will:  Complete 'Blame Game' worksheet and discussions, exploring the reasons why Romeo and Juliet ends in tragedy.  Contribute to a whole‐class debate about blame and responsibility in the play.  Write an essay developing and defending an interpretation of the play.
Complete a detailed evaluation of your dramatic performance in this week’s lessons.
Using your knowledge of Act 1 Scene 1 and Act 1 Scene 5, write a creative character description of either Tybalt or Romeo.
Homework Write an imaginary declaration of love, using techniques from Romeo and Juliet. Homework Complete worksheet exploring the plot of the entire play.
