My Place page 1 Ins and outs of a Debit Card A Debit Card and Credit Card may look like identical twins but these plastic look-alikes function in several different ways. Purchases on Debit Cards are processed by either entering a personal identification number (PIN) or signing a receipt – Credit Cards don’t use PIN’s for purchases. Also, Debit Cards are issued by your financial institution and linked directly to your checking account. This is why it is important to know and understand the Ins and Outs of a Debit Card. Track your spending with a Debit Card – n Using a Debit Card is like writing a check but paperless. You can go online to check your account statement or keep track of your purchases using a checkbook register. n Your “available credit” or amount you can spend depends on the available balance in your checking account. Debit Cards do not have credit limits. n When you make a purchase with your Debit Card and enter your PIN, the transaction amount is immediately deducted from your checking account. n When you make a purchase with your Debit Card and sign a receipt (signature purchase) the transaction amount is held from your available balance but is not immediately deducted from your checking account until the merchant submits the debit. (Usually within 2-5 business days, depending on the individual merchants.) Purchases are fast and easy – n No more writing checks. Just select Debit at the terminal and enter your PIN or select Credit and sign for your purchases. n You can use your Debit Card where you use your Credit Card, withdraw cash from ATM’s and get cash back at some stores. DID YOU KNOW? (cont.) Q: How many of these 14 Presidents have served non-consecutive terms? A: 1; only Grover Cleveland served two single terms with Benjamin Harrison’s 4 year Presidency in between. Roosevelt – Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy were assassinated. Q: How many U. S. Presidents have resigned while in office? A: Only 1, Richard M. Nixon. Q: How many electoral votes are needed to be elected President? A: 270 Q: How many Presidents served in the military prior to being elected?
