wecanseewhatwehavetoworkwith.Teacherdisrectionaryhasincreasedeachyearwith$340per
teacherin2015/16.ThebudgetwillbereviewedandsetbyPresidents,Treasures,ChristiKesslerand
oneteacherandthenitgoestoGeneralMeetingtogetratified.
Weneedtwopeopleinvolvedinthetreasuryrole.LastyearthiswasJessicaandScott(whowouldlike
tostepback)DianawillnowtakeoverforScotttoreviewthenumbers/backupandbalanceagainstbank
statement.ScotthasbeendoingthisforJessicaandhasreviewedeverythingthroughfiscalyear.We
shouldhaveitbalancedsoonandwillthensendtotaxesforreview.Wehadbudgetedtogetdownto
ourtargetfunding.Wehaveagoalfortheaccountbutarenotpenalizedifweareoverorunder.Weare
currentlyover-Dowewanttotrytospendthisdownordoweanticipateunknowncostsorspecial
projectsthataregoingtocomeup?
BigfundraiseristheWalkathon–thelastyearbroughtinjustaround$29,000.Thiswasthebestyear
we’veeverhadwhichallowedustodoextraactivities.OtherfundraisingeffortsincludeBoxTopsand
CookieDough
Communityeventsaremoretobringfamiliestogetherthanfundraisers-Craftnights,Familynights,etc
arealljusteventsweputon–usuallylosealittlemoneyforthem.
Thefundswegetgotoscholarshipsforfieldtripsforfamiliesthatcan’taffordtosendchildren.Ithas
filledagapfortheholidaymittens,allotmentforeachteacherforthemtoutilizewhattheyfeelis
neededforclassrooms.Wehaveabookfairandthatmoneygoesdirectlytolibrarypurchases.Wehave
inpreviousyearsallottedanextraamount.We’vehelpedtheofficewiththermometersandcoversand
siren/hornsformanagingrecess.FieldTripsareahugepiece–coveringbuses,admissionforteachers
entry(pacscicenter)booksforsomefirstandsecondgradersthattheycanpracticereadingon.The
DayattheScienceCenterSquareDanceweek,fundinggoingtoChessClubforcelebrationof25thyear.
Alwayslookingtoearmarkfundstowardsspecialactivitiesaswellasstandardadminneedssuchas
internetprograms,quickbook.
Wewouldliketobudgeteachyeartosendthe5thgraderstoOlympia.
Fridayswesendfoodhomeforchildrenwhosefamiliescoulduseitovertheweekend(viaNourishing
Network)Lookintootheragenciesthatwecouldpartnerwithforsummertimeefforts–perhaps

adecisiononsoon.14thgradeteachingpositionsand12ndgradeposition.Wehopetohaveresolvedby
curriculumnight.(September22nd)
Ithasbeenagreatstarttotheyear–kidsarehappy–positiveinteractions.Jumpstartwentreallywell
thisyear–wethinkitmadeadifferenceinthefirstdayforkindergarteners.Noonecried!
Wehaveapproximately482childrenthisyearwhichiswhatwewereprojectedfor.WegottoFTEat
endofyeartogowiththis.Lastyearwewereatabout467sonottoomanymorechildren,thoughall
kindergartenersarethereallday.
Portableshavebeendoingoksofar–noisedoesn’tseemtobeanissue.
TestresultscamebacktodayfortheSmarterBalancedAssessment.Thisisanationaltestfor2015/16
3rdgradersandabove.Thiscanbeaccessedviaskyward/familyaccess.
ChristiappreciatesthePSOforparentinput–wantstoknowwhatyou’rethinkingaboutand
appreciatesthePSOasasoundingboard.Ifsomeoneishavingaproblempleasecometalktoherabout
it.Schoolsarefunkyandtheyworkindifferentwaysandtheydon’tworkasyou’dimagineinthe
businessworld.Thereisalwaysareasonandaprocedurewhereorwhysomethingisatacertainphase.
IE.questionsaboutstaffingorspendingmoneyorhowtheschooldistrictspendsontechnology.
PSOaskedherifshehassuggestionsaboutwhatshe’dliketohaveextra$$spenton.Christiprefersto
spendextramoneyonprofessionaldevelopmentfortheteachers.Labdaysintheschoolareimportant
toher.Veryhardtogetgrantsforprofessionaldevelopment.Time,$$andprofessionaldevelopmentis
howtosupportteachers.
PSOaskedifnewteachersneedIPads?PSOhelpedtobuytheseaswellasChromebooksinprevious
years–greatforbothteachersandchildrentolookatdifferentusesoftechnologyforeducation.
ChristisaysIpadsservedthepurposethatshewantedittoservebutwewilleventuallybegoing1:1with
Chromebookssoshewasn’tsureifitwassomethingthatwereallyneed.Thebiggestbenefitiswiththe
intensivesupportrooms.Ipadsareexcellentfortheseroomsforcommunicationpieces.Isthere
anythingmorethatwecanprovidefortheintensivesupportroomsfromthePSOlevel?Thereare12
childreninprimaryand9inintermediate.Wouldbenicetoadd4or5.
