Offshore and Marine
Iron and Steel
The importance of safety is paramount within the Offshore and
Marine industries, SIG Technical Insulation have the expertise and
range of products to insulate and protect the many and varied
applications found Offshore, including Cryogenic, High Temperature
and Personal Protection. Fire Protection in this Offshore environment
is always taken very seriously, with many authorities involved in
the certification of bulkhead and deckhead insulation, such as IMO/
SOLAS, Lloyds, Det Norsk Veritas and the British Admiralty.
SIG Technical Insulation provides a number of Refractory and High
Temperature materials to assist steel makers in the production of
their products.
SIG Technical Insulation can offer a local service to these sites.
Products range from Alumina silica bricks, Insulating bricks, RCF &
(AES) Wool products, Microporous and Monolithic products.
Other applications include exhaust insulation, hydrocarbon fire
insulation, fire seals and drench systems, as well as the insulation of
accommodation. SIG Technical Insulation has been the leader in this
field for many years. We have introduced many innovations to the
Offshore market, in particular where corrosion under insulation is a
serious problem and time saving solutions are at a premium due to
the additional costs associated with Offshore contracts.
Aluminium
Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)
Non-ferrous products are in high demand and the industry
continually strives to increase productivity whilst reducing running
costs by means of process and efficiency improvements.
SIG Technical Insulation are ideally set up to support both end users
and contractors in achieving these improvements with an offer of
materials for melting and holding furnaces as well as the casting
process.
SIG Technical Insulation has for many years been supplying
materials for the manufacture of such equipment as Boilers, Kilns,
Ovens and Furnaces.
Included in our range are products with superior non-wetting
properties.

“Alkaline Earth Silicate” (AES) Wool
Products
Boards
UP TO

Felts
UP TO
1300oC
(AES) Wool Products are manufactured by melting a mixture of calcia/magnesia & silica, and blowing or spinning the melt to produce fibres.
These fibres can then be needled together, forming a mechanically strong binder-less product or mixed with a binder and pressed to form
boards. They offer products with similar performance to Refractory Ceramic Fibres without the potential health and safety concerns.
(AES) Wool Products have a classification temperature of up to 1300°C; the classification temperature is the temperature at which the
product suffers a permanent shrinkage of less than 4% over a 24 hour period.
The fibres have been designed to have low bio-persistence to encourage their breakdown within the body if inhaled or ingested. Exonerated
from any carcinogenic classification under nota Q of directive 97/69EC.

Bulk Fibres
Vacuum Formed Products
UP TO 1430ºC*
UP TO 1430ºC*
Benefits
• Bulk is virtually immune to thermal shock
• The fibres are opaque to infra-red and so maintain their low thermal conductivity to high temperature
• The fibres exhibit low heat storage capacity
• The fibres are high purity and non-corrosive
• The fibres are resilient and also resistant to mechanical damage
• No reaction with alumina based bricks within temperatures of recommended operating ranges
Product Types
Vacuum formed shapes are manufactured to specific applications, material compositions can be varied with different fillers and
chemicals to produce special characteristics such as high strength, density and molten metal non-wettability.

Calcium Silicate is a traditional insulation material that has been used for many years. Its main benefits are its relatively high
temperature limits (depending on type), its strength and appearance and the fact that it can be cut or moulded into a wide range of
shapes and components for hot insulation uses.
As well as being available in pipe sections, lags and slabs, this type of material is also available in a cementitious form for direct
application to complicated shapes or for finishing uneven surfaces.

Thermographic Surveys
By means of an external furnace survey utilising a Thermographic camera or gun we can assess the energy loss through the casing,
advising current and future potential problems within the furnace.
This allows an easy calculation to be made showing energy wastage and potential savings in both energy and money.
