What is expected of you if you are selected as a 2017 HCF scholarship Recipient? What is an HCF Scholar? Every year, the Hamilton Community Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing higher education. As a recipient of the Foundation’s scholarships, you have been identified as a student who is committed to their education and recognized as a Hamilton Community Foundation (HCF) Scholar! Receiving an HCF scholarship is an honor. Each scholarship fund held by the Hamilton Community Foundation was established by an individual donor or organization to benefit students like you. On behalf of the many donors and their families, we commend you for your outstanding achievements and your commitment to your education. What are the next steps? Once you have received an email notifying you of your scholarship offer, you will need to accept or decline it and if you accept, you must provide the necessary documents outlined in your email by the deadline. This will include: 1. Thank you note to the donor (PDF Files only) 2. Upload a headshot (senior photo) (JPEG files only) 3. Provide information about the school you will attend 4. RSVP to the scholarship reception on May 16, 2017 at Hamilton HS. (Dress for this event is appropriate dressy attire.) You must attend this event if you have a donor who will be in attendance. Sometimes changes occur during the summer months regarding the college and/or major from your original application. Any changes must be reported to the Foundation as soon as possible. These changes could affect your eligibility for the scholarship you were awarded. Make sure the Foundation has correct information Please make sure you have provided the Foundation with the name of your college as well as your college student/banner ID#. (Examples: +00000000, 000112233 or A00512340) This is the identification we will include on your scholarship check to ensure it will be posted to your student account. This is NOT your email log-in password. In order to have your check ready in August, you must notify us of any changes by July 7, 2017. Pick up your check To ensure we are providing scholarship checks to students following through with their plans to begin college in the fall of 2016, you or a parent/guardian must pick up your scholarship check at the Hamilton Community Foundation the week of July 24th – July 28th, 2017. If you are not able to pick up your check during this week, you must contact us to make other arrangements. If we do not hear from you during this week, we will assume you are forfeiting your scholarship award. Don’t forget to renew your scholarship Several scholarships were established by donors who wish to support students for multiple years. If you received a scholarship that is renewable for additional years there are several items we will need before you may renew your scholarship. You must have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA or higher if required You must continue to meet your scholarship criteria You must submit your official transcript You must submit a brief essay describing your year in college (This should be addressed to your donor as we will be sending them this information.) You must provide updated contact/school information All documentation must be submitted/emailed to [email protected] . An email reminder will be sent to the email address we have on file. Please make sure we have the email you will be using while in college. Other scholarship opportunities The Hamilton Community Foundation also has donors who would like to support students after they have finished at least their first year in college. If you did not receive a renewing scholarship this year, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships from the Foundation next year. Please check the Foundation’s website in December 2017 to see if you qualify. h a m i l t o n f o u n d a t i o n . or g 51 3 - 8 6 3 - 1 7 1 7
