Psalm 119:73-80– Study Notes
On Wednesday we will be discussing our second selection from psalm 119 – the tenth section verses 73-80.
The underlying theme of the whole psalm is the Word of God. The theme of this section is the prayer of man
in his personal relationship with God..
1. The psalmist uses “I” and “me” throughout this passage and focuses on his
personal relationship with God. Has society today forgotten the significance of
man’s personal relationship with God?
2. The underlying theme of the whole psalm is the word, or the written
revelation of God. How many different words are used in this passage to
describe God’s written revelation? What can we learn from the different
meanings of these words about the different ways in which God’s word is used
in our lives?
3. Thinking of v73, to what extent did God make us? Did He determine our
physical nature and appearance? What about our minds and personalities?
What about our skills and gifts? What about our “defects”?
4. As we grow from baby to adult, our growth is influenced by many factors –
environment, relationships, diet, exercise – to what extent is God directing,
forming and fashioning that growth?
5. Why should God-fearing people rejoice when they see us (v74)? Do they?
6. Does God afflict us (v75)? How can He do that in faithfulness?
7. Verses 76/77 talk about God’s “compassion” and His “unfailing love”. What is
the similarity and the difference between these aspects of God’s character?
8. Who are the “arrogant” in your life (v78)? What would you mean if you prayed
for them to be “put to shame”? That sort of prayer request never appears on
our Wednesday prayer notes. Should it?
9. Would people who fear God turn to us (v79)? What can we offer them?
10. The theme of the psalm is the written revelation of God. What is the best way
you’ve learnt on how to get the most from the bible? Do you have a favourite
“bible app”? A helpful quiet time routine? Reading plan? Scripture memory
system? Sermon website? Reading/study note?
