5TH GRADE NEWS What’s Happening in Mrs. Paswater’s Class Room 310 January 6-20 Classroom Overview: Week 17 Vocab Words Math Focus: We will start multiplying and dividing fractions next week. This will include story problems where the students will have to decide which operation to use with fractions. Reading Focus: We will start a new novel, How to Steal a Dog. This story follows a young homeless girl and her quest to make a better life for her family. Along with the novel we will be working on synonyms and antonyms, pronouns, point of view, and prefixes. Credence Credulous Credible Claustrophobic Phobia Science Focus: We will continue to study the solar system. Social Studies Focus: We have been studying the 13 original colonies and why the colonists came to North America. We will continue to study their lifestyles, conflicts, and cities. All of this leads up to our American Revolution unit which we will start in late January/early February. Certain Creed False Falsify Fallacy States and Capitals to Study: Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1/10) Jackson, Mississippi (1/12) Frankfort, Kentucky (1/17) Nashville, Tennessee (1/19) Students will need to bring in an empty cereal box for a Valentine's Day craft. This needs to be at school by January 27th. If you have extra, please send them our way! Reminders After school detentions will be served on Thursday evenings until 4:30. If a student receives three strikes during the course of one week, they will serve detention. Boys basketball practice will start January 9th after school. Basketball players must keep his grades up in order to participate in basketball. As cold and flu season quickly approaches we are always in need of tissues, hand sanitizer, and Clorox wipes.
