A new event that debuted only a few weeks ago in Lafayette
received one of the top monetary awards Wednesday from the
FILED UNDER
Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission.

INNOV8, billed as a "festival of ideas," will receive $10,000 to help
fund advertising and marketing. It was one of several organizations
and events that were recipients of more than $160,000 enterprise
grants from LCVC. Since 1997, LCVC has awarded grants to
museums, non-profits and governmental organizations to be used
for improvements and not-for-operation expenditures.

According to LCVC officials, the program aims to stabilize the
organizations in Lafayette Parish through increased attendance and
community participation in events. Priority is given to museum
improvements, exhibits and promotions that enhance the visitor
experience to Lafayette.

The Children's Museum of Acadiana came
away with $9,000 to refurbish the front of the
museum façade and update the CMA
website.
Several received $8,000 each. Those who
received the grants are: Acadiana Center for
the Arts, for exhibits and performances
embedded in the Louisiana Bicentennial campaign; Downtown
Lafayette Unlimited, for Christmas decorations for Jefferson Street
in downtown Lafayette; Festival International de Louisiane, to
manufacture directional signage, information and band sign kiosk
upgrades; Lafayette Museum Association Inc., to repaint the
Alexandre Mouton House; Lafayette Science Museum, to create
and build the international collaborative exhibit to celebrate
Louisiana's Bicentennial; and the Upper Lafayette Economic
Development Foundation, to enhance the northwest quadrant of
Interstate 10 and University Avenue by refurbishing the UL logo
and to complete landscaping of the exit.
Receiving $7,000 grants were: the Oil Center Renaissance
Association, for tent, stage, sound and lighting equipment rentals,
as well as new light bulbs and wiring for Santa; Performing Arts

PASA's 12/13 season brochure; Paul and Lulu Hilliard University

files; Lafayette Consolidated Government, for establishing three
new heritage signs in the respective neighborhoods; and Cathedral
of St. John, for promotional ads, sealing skylight windows in the
museum and replacing halogen light bulbs for exhibits.
Those receiving $6,000 grants were: Lafayette Parish Master
Gardeners, for rental of tents, tables, chairs, portable toilets, etc for
the Fall Plant Sale at the Horse Farm/Urban Park; Louisiana Crafts
Guild, for print marketing material to support local crafts at the Sans
Souci Gallery; Asociacion Cultural Latino-Acadiana, for
procurement of professional stage signage and displays to improve
the look of The Latin Music Festival; Zoo of Acadiana (Friends of
the Zoo), to construct and enclose a facility to house parakeets;

and the UL Center for Cultural & Eco-Tourism, to establish a food
blog called Gumbo Two-Step presented in both French and English
on the CCET website to crosslink to local food blogs and the LCVC
website.
Receiving $5,000 grants were: Festivals Acadies et Créoles, to
defray the cost of producing printed materials for posters, pins,
signage and marketing; Acadian Village, for continued dredging
and/or re-digging bayous, rebuilding bridges and maintenance to
homes on site; and Acadiana Symphony Orchestra — Fourth of
July celebration, Red, White & Boom — for marketing and
promotional items.
Two received $4,000 each. They are Cité des Arts, to repaint the
exterior of the building and gallery spaces and to improve prop and
costume storage areas; and Vermilionville, to redesign its website.
