th
held on May 6 and 7 , 2016 and will offer more than 300 activities throughout the province of Québec! Field trips, lab
visits, Bars des sciences, exhibitions or astronomical observations, there will be something for everyone. With more than
200 activities located throughout Québec, everyone can have a taste of science: from Chibougamau to Sherbrooke, from
Magdalena Islands to Gatineau.
The 2016 theme, Environment and living things, compiles numerous activities on ecology, but includes other aspects too!
Every scientific area will be covered: Health, astronomy, chemistry, mathematics, social sciences, etc. Each activity is an
opportunity for discovering and for meeting with specialists or passionate facilitators. To localize an activity, you can do
so by region, by theme or type of activity. It’s easy: A user-friendly search engine is available on
www.science24heures.com. The festival organized by Science pour tous is recognized by UNESCO and has become part
of the Science Odyssey, a Canadian event led by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
(NSERC).
An edition focusing on ecology – Now more than ever, ecology is at the heart of our lives and our concerns, being
animal, plant, urban or social ecology. It designates the study of the relationships between living things and their
environment. Meaning that it addresses a context where, thanks to climate change, species must adapt to new
conditions! During the 24 Hours of science, the public will discover not only researches on ecology but also technologies
and engineering related to this domain, teaming up to curb our footprint on the planet.
Spokespersons – Marie-Pier Élie is a scientific journalist at Le monde de demain on Explora channel, Le Code Chastenay
on Télé-Québec. She participates on a regular basis to Libre-Service and Entrée principale, respectively on MAtv and
Radio-Canada. Her press reports have received many awards. Dominique Berteaux is Canada Research Chair in Protecting
Northern Ecosystems at the Université du Québec in Rimouski, and is also director of the Research Group on Northern
Environments (BORÉAS). For this expert well-versed in this topic, ``the ecology represents the human beings concern for
their global environment. This is where science meets consciousness.``
Science pour tous – A private non-profit organization, Science pour tous brings together scientific and technical culture
stakeholders in Québec. The 24 Hours of Science is its signature annual event. The festival is endorsed by major partners
such as the Ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
Council of Canada (NSERC).
