
Scholars should be practicing their Holey Card Drills at home at least two times nightly. Parents
please assist me with this effort!

Sign the planners over the weekend. Feel free to use them as a two-way communication tool.

Our retest on Lesson 2, The Kingdoms of Kush and Aksum, will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Be
able to answer the questions in the study guide and know another name for the kingdom of Kush;
why the war with Aksum was the worst war of all for Kush; what contributed most to Aksum’s
power; and that Aksum was the biggest marketplace in NE Africa and it was influenced by the
spread of Christianity. This week we’ll be learning about the Trans-Sahara Trade and be able to
describe how and by whom the trans-Sahara trade was conducted and the importance of this trade.

If your scholar has chosen to participate in the Malcolm X Oratory Contest on May 18, 2012 at
1:30 p.m., he/she should be practicing daily. The speech excerpt should be completely memorized.
Try-outs will be on Wednesday.

The last spelling tests of the year will be on Friday, May 25, 2012!! However, we will continue
with reading lessons as our schedule permits, so you should keep up with your homework sheets.

Scholars will be doing the final round of Plato Testing the first week of June.

