Capitalization Unit Study Guide
Highlight the word (or words) that need capitalization and then explain why the word (or words) need
capitalization. There may a few sentences that have a capitalized word and the word does not need to
be capitalized. You need to highlight the incorrectly capitalized words as well and explain the error.
The number in the parentheses tells you how many errors are contained in each sentence. You will
have one line for each error to explain why the error is considered incorrect.
One example has been provided for you.
Example:
“Look into his eyes,” said the supervisor. “this horse will be your faithful friend.” (1)
Why? Because you are beginning a new sentence and this is the first word in a direct quote.
