March 2017 The Winds of March, we welcome you, there is work for you to do. Work and play, blow all day, blow the winter cold away!” -- Unknown A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT With only one fourth of our year remaining, there are several things that we need to do to get ready for the end of this year and prepare for next year. The nominating committee still needs a few women to join our board. Some members of our board have assumed different positions at different times. When the ladies just change chairs, our ideas remain stagnant. In order to grow and improve, we would love to have new ideas from new people. Please consider helping us by taking a position on the BCCWC Board. Our Fellowship and Program/Social Committees are hard at work getting ready for spring events. Check out the Newsletter, Calendar and details in the items below: If you have time on March 23, consider helping out at the Fort Howard Apartments annual spring buffet. Contact Community Service Chairwomen for more information. Dr. Surrell is our keynote speaker on the March 30 Fundraiser. Listen and learn about ways to improve your health. Look for reservation forms on our website. Don’t forget to send in your reservations for our Spring Card and Game Day on May 3. The committee plans a wonderful event. Enjoy a great lunch & day with your friends! Helene, our President-Elect, is collecting nominations for Community Grant Recipients. Last year we donated over $37,000 to our community. This year we expect to have a larger amount to gift. Find the request form for Community Grant Awards on our website. Only members can request one of our grants. Requests are due by May 31. And now for a WEE bit of History: Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in America in 1737? It was organized by the Charitable Irish Society of Boston. Today, people all over the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades, corned beef and cabbage, Irish coffee, green beer, shamrocks, leprechauns, and WEARING GREEN! Speaking of Wearing Green, I have heard that people wear green to avoid being pinched by leprechauns. I’m not sure that I believe this, but just to be safe, be sure to wear Green on March 17. Avoid a Leprechaun pinch! For each petal on the shamrock, this brings a wish your way – good health, good luck and happiness, for today and every day. 1 Jan Clark, President 2016-2017 MEMBERSHIP The membership committee welcomes new member Joan Simpson.
