KIDS
CHAMPIONS
FOR
holiday traditions
As we enter the holiday season of 2014, many of
us will find ourselves following traditions. What
are your holiday traditions? Do you gather at
grandma’s house on Christmas Eve and play “rob
your neighbor?” Do you celebrate the festival of
lights lighting the Menorah for 8 crazy nights? My
tradition is to stay in my new PJs all Christmas
Day watching movies like “Meet Me In St. Louis,”
“It’s a Wonderful Life” and “National Lampoon’s
Christmas Vacation” (“That there is an RV, Clark”).
I did some research and found that our friends across the globe have some unusual
holiday traditions and a few are worth mentioning. Thanks to a campaign in 1974,
many Japanese families eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas Eve. In the
Czech Republic unmarried women stand by the door and throw a shoe over
their shoulder – if the toe is pointing towards the door when it lands, they will get
married in the next year. An age old tradition in Great Britain dictates that each
member of the family must stir the Christmas pudding mix in a clock-wise direction
before it’s cooked, making a wish as they do so. Ukrainians forego tinsel and
baubles, instead decorating their Christmas trees with an artificial spider and web
(pictured above).
Before the Wings of Hope’s MAT Program gets involved,
many children and their families have only known their
holidays to be filled with illness, pain, disease and fear.
Their holiday traditions are interrupted, or quite possibly
have never begun. I wonder what Andrea’s holidays were
like before she found Wings of Hope? She was born with her
internal organs and arteries intertwined to such an extent
that she could not be put in a vertical position. She spent
her first years lying flat, and because of her birth defects
was destined to die before she turned 10 years old. But after
23 treatments and surgeries, Andrea now runs, jumps and
plays as a healthy child with a bright future ahead of her. Excitement, magic and
gratitude are now a part of Andrea’s holiday traditions.
As a CFK, you impact every child we serve in big and small ways. Your generous
support allows Wings of Hope to say “yes” and initiates holiday traditions full of
health and happiness to precious children like Andrea. This year, our wish for you is
that you feel good about the impact you are making in the lives of children you may
never meet. Make a new tradition of celebrating your generosity as Champions

NATIONAL CART COMPANY
Wings of Hope is grateful for National Cart
Company and their generous support of the MAT
Program as a CFK! You are probably familiar with
their mascot, “Big Cart” (pictured). A variety of
retailers use the crowd pleasing “Big Cart” for
parades, grand openings and other events in
the St. Louis area. But, grocery carts accounts
for a small percent of National Cart Company’s
business. Since 1979 they have been a leader
in the design, manufacturing, and distribution
of material handling carts and equipment, food
service products, and store fixtures. St. Charles,
MO is home-base and, to better serve their
customer in the west, a second manufacturing and distribution center is in Reno,
NV. Their customers range from single unit retailers to Fortune 100 companies,
serving many industries including supermarket, mass retail, home center, food
service, distribution, government, and industrial. www.nationalcart.com

something in common
CENTRAL MISSOURI PIZZA DBA DOMINO’S
We think it’s so clever to have Domino’s pizza as a CFK! Kids and pizza go together
like… well… Canadian Bacon and Pineapple, right? The franchise that generously
supports the MAT Program is called Central Missouri Pizza, Inc. DBA Domino’s Pizza.
President, Greg Neichter, opened his first location in Columbia, Missouri in 1980.
Today, he owns/operates 32 Domino’s stores located in central Missouri, St. Louis
and Louisville, KY. And guess what! The MAT Program serves kids and families
from these areas 100s of times each year. Allow me to brag on Domino’s for
a bit: Over the years, the menu has expanded to suit almost any craving. You
can choose from four crust styles: the original hand-tossed, crunchy thin crust,
pan pizza, and gluten-free and the list of
pizza toppings is endless! Not in the mood
for pizza? No problem! Domino’s features
eight different oven-baked sandwiches,
bread bowls pastas, chicken wings and a
chocolate lava cake. As you are rushing
about this holiday season and forgetting to
plan meals for your family, allow Dominos’
to solve your problem. They deliver!
