Sir Sidney — The Mayor of Happyville Upon meeting Sid it was obvious that he was an adorable, energetic, happy little guy. After all, that’s what you’d expect from a 1 1/2 yr. old Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles + Bichon Frise mix). But I soon learned from his Pet Parents, Marilyn & Don Kerniskey, Sid was also a little handful. He pulled on walks, jumped on people, wouldn’t come when he was called, and barked incessantly at other dogs. He also ocSid practiced the Place casionally had accidents in the house. Not so command all around town. cute. So, during the Kerniskey’s in-home consultation, we decided a day training program of 6-hour days with me would work best to stop Sid’s unwanted behaviors and teach him proper doggy manners. I taught Sid a variety of commands and manners, like walking politely next to me instead of pulling, not picking up yucky stuff on the street, and coming to me without a leash. Everywhere we went, Sid approached strangers as if he were campaigning for Mayor. Unfortunately, jumping on people will not win you votes. So, he learned the “Off” command, as well as the “Say Hi” command, which allows him to greet a person and get lots of attention as long as he’s not jumping on them. Sid quickly became a star student! He will sit until I release him and come when called,” explains Don. “He still gets excited when someone comes over, but we are working on that… training was easier than I expected.” Proper dog socialization is another benefit of day training. Congratulations, Marilyn, Don & Sid! Taming a Wild Bear You’ve probably heard the expression, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Well, it literally took 3 people (myself included) about 10 minutes to simply put a training collar on Bear, a 2-year old Airedale Terrier mix. “He just acts a little nutty sometimes,” explained Pet Parent Joel Libava. Bear was an escape artist and wouldn’t come when called, barked for attention and didn’t walk politely, especially when distracted. Bear’s bad behavior was causing a lot of stress in Bear & Joel. the household. Now, after 5 lessons, Bear is “much nicer… my wife is starting to like him better… my 20-year old daughter has fallen in love with him...and we all feel less tense because he listens,” says Joel. “He’s turned out to be a cool “PLAY!” was the only word Bear knew before dog. Heck, he even has his own Twitter account!” You can foltraining. low Bear @franchisedog. CONGRATULATIONS, Libava Family! CHEERS TO 2016!
