March 26—Math March Madness Night! 5:45-7:00pm Helpful Tips from the Health Room / Eating More Fruits & Vegetables! Healthy eating for children & adults includes eating a variety of foods from all the food groups (grains, fruits, vegetables, proteins (poultry, meats, fish), healthy fats and dairy). Eating a variety of fruits & vegetables everyday helps promote good health. Fruits & vegetables are a good source of many vitamins, minerals, & fiber needed to promote healthy weight & prevent illness. To get a healthy variety of vitamins & nutrients, think color. For example, green leafy vegetables offer a great source of Vitamin A. Vitamin C rich foods include citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits and strawberries. Counselor’s Corner—Dear Tiger Family, The character trait that we’re learning about in school during March is HOPE. Students are learning that Hope means believing that something good can come out of something bad. As a way to practice that concept, we our school will be participating in the Pennies for Patients Program during the last 2 weeks in March. Students are asked to bring any spare change from home to school on a daily basis & classes will be in competition w/ one another for a chance to earn a pizza party from Papa John’s. All the money collected during this drive will go directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for cancer research & treatment. We want to help provide HOPE to individuals struggling w/ cancer. Please consider allowing your child to participate in this project by bringing in change during the last 2 weeks in March. Thank you, Cristy Dame WLES Counselor. March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month. This is the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. We are celebrating the month at WLES w/ several activities. Students in grades K-1 may invite their parents or grandparents to attend music class w/ them next week. Check w/ your child’s teacher as to when your child has music class. Did you know? Students who have had 4 years or more of music & arts instruction scored at least 25 points higher on the Math, Reading & Writing parts of college-bound SAT tests?
