Why can’t
I lose
the weight?
You’ve probably tried it all: Fad diets, miracle weight loss
supplements, and personal trainers at the gym that seem to
relish misery - but the weight doesn’t come off. Or worse yet,
the weight drops off, only to return as soon as the diet/supplement/fitness regime ends. Is your body trying to tell you
something? Yes. Your body is trying to tell you something.
But are you listening to it?
3
What the weight loss gurus
aren’t telling you
Weight loss gurus
want you to believe
that there is a “magic
bullet” of some kind.
Weight loss gurus want you to believe
that there is a “magic bullet” of some
kind. That if you would just follow
their program/ buy their product, the
weight will come off. The fact is, their
program or product may have worked
- for them.
Everybody’s body is different.
No weight loss guru knows
exactly how your body will react.
But if they told you this truth, you’d
be a lot less likely to buy whatever
they’re selling!
4
Quick Checkup: Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI)
If your math skills aren’t too rusty, you can calculate your BMI using this formula:
BMI = Weight in pounds x 703
Height in inches x your height in inches
1. Multiply your weight in pounds by 703
2. Multiply your height in inches times itself
3. Divide the figure in step 2 from the figure in step 1
The result is your BMI.
Do you need to lose weight?
Consult this table
BMI is less than 18.5 = Underweight
BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 = Normal weight
BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 = Overweight
BMI equal to or greater than 30 = Obese
5
astonishing facts about weight loss
1.
Rapid weight loss can boost your motivation
because it rewards your efforts quickly. But when
you lose weight rapidly, hunger will be suppressed by ketone production, and excessive
levels of ketones makes blood pH acidic. Ketones
are byproducts of fat burning in the body, they
suppress hunger, but they also make your blood
acidic. Extremely rapid weight loss can make
blood pH acidic enough to damage your kidneys.
6
2.
People who lose weight gradually are just
as likely to regain it as people who lose weight
rapidly. It’s a widely held belief that if you lose
weight gradually, you’re more likely to keep it off
than someone who loses weight rapidly. but it’s
not true. Research published in The Lancet reveals
that over the course of 144 weeks, people who
lost weight gradually put it back on at the same
rate as people who lost weight rapidly did.
7
3.
Your body may tell you you’re hungry when
you’re actually thirsty. If you are middle-aged or
older, your body may mistake thirst for hunger.
This can easily cause you to overeat and may
result in chronic long term dehydration. If you
are middle-aged or older, you may not be able
to depend on your sense of thirst to tell you when
to drink.
Hydration tip:
Drink an 8 ounce glass of water every hour.
8
4.
Fat cells never die When you lose weight, you
are losing stored fat, but not the fat cells themselves! Fat cells swell up in size as they store fat,
and when they are full they divide and from
new fat cells. However, when you lose weight,
you don’t lose the new fat cells. They stay in your
body, and actually make it easier for you to regain
weight.

Is there a link between acidity,
alkalinity, and your weight?
A theory called “The acid/alkaline
theory of weight loss” suggests
that your ability to lose weight is
linked to your body’s pH balance.
But is it? You’ve probably seen
skinny teenagers gobbling down
mountains of junk food, and never
gain a pound. On the other hand,
you or someone you know may
eat a very healthy diet, composed
mostly of alkaline foods, and are still
not able to lose the weight.
So is the acid/alkaline theory of weight loss nonsense? It’s not that simple.
10
The pH link to obesity: Metabolic syndrome is a constellation of
physiological screwups that are linked to excessive acidity in the body. One of the
symptoms of metabolic syndrome is obesity, another symptom of it is low urine pH.
One of the ways doctors treat metabolic syndrome is to raise the pH of the urine.
This treatment, if successful can result in weight loss. So there is a link between
acidity and obesity - if your weight problem is caused by metabolic syndrome.
Because your body’s ability to handle
acidity declines with age, the older
you get, the higher your risk factor
becomes for metabolic syndrome.
If you are worried that you may have
metabolic syndrome, it’s best to talk to
your doctor. Your doctor is best suited
for screening you for the symptoms of
metabolic syndrome.

4 SURPRISING WAYS
YOUR weight
LOSS PLANS ARE
BEING SABOTAGED
You’ve probably tried it all: Fad diets, miracle weight
loss supplements, and personal trainers at the gym that
seem to relish misery - but the weight doesn’t come off.
Or worse yet, the weight drops off, only to return as soon
as the diet/supplement/fitness regime ends. Is your body
trying to tell you something? Yes. Your body is trying to
tell you something. But are you listening to it?
12
PROBIOTICS AND THE
PH BALANCE IN YOUR GUT
There is a war going on in your gut between
beneficial probiotic microbes and harmful microbes. Probiotic bacteria are aerobes, microbes
that thrive in environments that lack free oxygen.
The harmful microbes in your gut are anaerobes,
microbes that thrive in an environment rich in free
oxygen. You need to maintain a healthy balance
of probiotic bacteria in your gut to encourage
healthy weight loss.
Help the “good guy” bacteria in your gut By eating a diet rich in antioxidants and
drinking antioxidant alkaline water. Antioxidants in the gut deprive harmful bacteria
of oxygen, so beneficial probiotics can thrive.
Hydration tip:
Studies show that you take bigger gulps of water when
you use a straw.
13
Quick Checkup: 5 signs of poor gut health
Good gut health is essential to losing weight.
Check yourself for these five signs of poor gut health:
1.Chronic nausea, constipation or bloating
2.Depression
3.Food allergies
4.Chronic fatigue syndrome
5.Skin problems
If you regularly suffer from three or
more of the above symptoms, then you
have poor gut health. Drinking alkaline
water, eating more fiber, and sugar free
yogurts with probiotics can help you
change your gut health.
14
Danger: Zero-calorie sweeteners
%
calories
Weight loss tip:
Zero calorie sweeteners Can low calorie
“diet” foods and beverages actually cause
you to gain weight? Yes. There is no law
that says that a food or beverage that
is labeled ‘diet’ has to actually help you
lose weight! In fact, artificially-sweetened
zero calorie beverages may cause you to
gain weight because they stimulate the
growth of the wrong kind of microbes in
your digestive tract.
Avoid all artificially sweetened foods and beverages.
15
fluoride and hypothyroidism
Fluoride and hypothyroidism have been linked
in recent studies. If your doctor says your ability to
lose weight is affected by an underactive thyroid,
then you may want to cut fluoride out.
Health tip:
Fluoride is easy to avoid
and can be filtered out
of your water with the right
filters. You can find fluoride-free
toothpaste in many health food
stores.
16
BPA and weight gain
The BPA in plastic containers may also be causing
you to gain weight. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is known to
have estrogen-like effects. But it was only recently
discovered that BPA also causes adipogenesis - the
production of new fat cells. Once BPA is broken down
in your system, it becomes Bisphenol Glucuronide
(BPA-G) which recent research shows causes fat
cells to store more fat! Your main source of exposure
to BPA is from the plastic containers your food and
beverages are stored in.
Tips to reduce your exposure to BPA:
Avoid foods and beverages that come in plastic containers or in metal cans. Meal cans
that store food are often lined with resins that contain BPA. Never heat food in plastic
containers in the microwave, that increase the release of BPA into the food you eat.
17
Metabolic
Syndrome How your pH balance
could affect your weight
As you age, your body’s ability to maintain it’s alkaline
buffer - the body’s ability to neutralize acidity - declines.
An acidic diet can cause your urine pH to be chronically
low, and when that happens, your chances of developing
metabolic syndrome increases.
18
Warning signs of metabolic syndrome
If you have three or more of the below symptoms
Talk to your doctor about metabolic syndrome.
1.
Clinical obesity is the most obvious sign of metabolic
syndrome. Women develop pear-shaped bodies because
they carry excess weight mostly in their hips. Men
develop apple-shaped bodies, because they carry most
of their excess weight around the abdomen. To find out
if you are clinically obese, talk to your doctor. If your
doctor tells you that you have a Body Mass Index (BMI)
of greater than 30, you are likely to be clinically obese.
19
2.
High Blood Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure
are both signs of metabolic syndrome. They are related.
High blood cholesterol causes cholesterol plaque to build
up in the arteries, eventually leading to heart trouble if
left unchecked.
3.
Kidney stones form from excess calcium deposits in the
urinary system. Research shows that the “excess” calcium
may actually be calcium that is stolen from your bones
when your body struggles with acidity.
20
4.
5.
High Blood sugar develops as the body grows resistant
to the effects of insulin, which in normal circumstances is
what the body uses to signal fat cells to release stored fat
for energy.
Low urine pH If your urine pH is regularly below a pH of 6.1,
you are more likely to develop the symptoms of metabolic
syndrome. The lower your urine pH, the more symptoms of
metabolic syndrome you are likely to have.

Obesity
High Blood Pressure/ Heart problems
Bone Loss
High Blood Sugar/ Kidney problems
High Cholesterol levels
22
The big difference a half of a pH makes
If your urine pH is regularly over a pH of 6.1, you
likely have nothing to worry about. Your body
handles acidity fine, and you most likely have
no symptoms of metabolic syndrome. However, if your urine pH is regularly 5.6 or lower,
it’s likely that you have all of the symptoms of
metabolic syndrome. The difference between
perfect health and metabolic syndrome is just a
half of a pH!

Take action:
Drinking alkaline water can raise the pH of your urine. Regular consumption
of alkaline water may help you maintain your urine pH at healthy levels.
23
Case study: 12 Pounds lost in two
months by drinking alkaline water
Alkaline water was put to the test in a clinical study that evaluated four middle aged
people who likely had metabolic syndrome. Each of the four test subjects had high
blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and were clinically obese. The study was
conducted to see what effect alkaline water had on new drinkers.
After two months, the test subjects had lost an
average of 12 pounds from drinking alkaline water
alone. Researchers also found that drinking alkaline
water appeared to lower levels of the most harmful
cholesterols, and lowered blood pressure. During
the study, researchers noted that all four test
subjects were secreting significant amounts of
heavy metals, and that bone loss was reduced. By
the end of the study, researchers noted that the
test subjects health had improved overall.
24
How hydration
affects your
body weight
Does drinking water make you gain weight? Absolutely not,
but there are a lot of people that are fooled by this, and they cut
their water intake thinking that this will help them lose weight.
But in reality, the opposite is true: If you deprive your body of
water, when it does get water it will retain it. The body retains
water - just like a camel - if it thinks it’s not going to get enough
to drink.
25
Quick Checkup: How much water should you drink?
• Take your weight in pounds
• Divide that number in half.
The result you end up with is the number of
ounces of water that you need to drink every
day that you don’t exercise. On days that you
do exercise, add 16 ounces of water for every
hour you work out.
For example: I weigh 138 pounds. Divide that in half and you get 69.
That means that every day I don’t work out, I need to drink 69 ounces of water.
Since I ride my bicycle to work (1 hour travel time) I add 16 ounces, for a total
of 85 ounces of water per day.
26
3 out of 4 People are at risk
of chronic dehydration
The CDC estimates that 3 out of 4 Americans don’t drink enough water.
Chronic dehydration has been linked to weight gain, kidney trouble, and even
to heart attacks and strokes. It should be obvious: Drink enough water to
maintain good health - but it’s not. A majority of Americans are clearly missing
out on the simplest thing they can do for better health: Drinking water.

Quick Checkup: Are you dehydrated?
Do the Pinch Test to find out:
• Put one hand flat on the table
• Pinch the skin together about one
inch behind any knuckle
• Release the skin, if it doesn’t snap
back in under a second, you are
dehydrated
• If you are dehydrated: Go get a
glass of water, then continue reading
28
Could dehydration be the reason
you’re eating too much?
If you are middle aged or older, and you are dehydrated, your body could be
mistaking thirst for hunger. Because of this, middle-aged and older people are
at risk for overeating, and therefore at risk for weight gain.
Test Yourself: Is it hunger or thirst? The
next time you feel hungry between meals,
try this:
Grab a glass of water instead of a snack.
If that glass of water satisfies your hunger,
you were actually thirsty, not hungry!
Also, drink a glass of water about a half
hour before every meal. Research shows
that drinking water before meals naturally
reduces your desire to eat more.

How alkaline water hydration
can help you lose weight
Lipolysis is the process that your body uses to
convert fat into energy. That fat-burning process
depends on a chemical reaction called hydrolysis
- which depends on water - to work. Proper hydration is essential if you want to burn fat. Hydrolysis,
and every other metabolic process in your body
depends on water to work at maximum efficiency.
Alkaline water hydrates better than plain water,
and does something that plain water doesn’t:
It can neutralize metabolic acids like lactic acid
that limit your ability to burn fat.
Hydration tip:
Make your water taste better. Add a twist of lemon, orange or other fruit.
30
1.
Metabolism Your energy level begins to drop at just
1% dehydration. When you are dehydrated, your body
slows down your metabolism to conserve water - which
is the opposite of what you want! At 2% dehydration,
there is a measurable drop in your athletic performance.
Maintaining your hydration allows your metabolism to
burn fat faster.
Energy tip:
Combine a powdered electrolyte like Gatorade with
alkaline water for boosting your workout performance.
31
2.
Waste Removal When you burn off fat, it produces
waste products such as lactic acid that your body must
get rid of. That waste removal process requires water.
Proper hydration helps your body get rid of those wastes
as fast as possible so it can burn more fat!
Hydration tip:
Fill a bottle with the amount of water you
want to drink so you can track your progress.
32
3.
Lactic Acid Breakdown: You’ve probably heard fitness
enthusiasts talk about “feeling the burn” as a way to
know that your workout is actually doing something. But
that burning sensation isn’t actually a good thing! It’s
lactic acid that has built up in your muscles, and it means
that you’ve hit your fat-burning limit.
Workout tip:
Up your fat burning limit in workouts by drinking alkaline water! It helps neutralize
the lactic acid build up in your muscles so you can work out longer and harder.
33
Drinking alkaline water can help you
push just a little harder because it helps
neutralize the lactic acid wastes in your
muscles.
Research conducted at the University of Montana showed
that athletes had less lactic acid build-up in their muscles
when they drank alkaline water as opposed to regular
water. Drinking alkaline water helps you get more out of
every workout.

Healthy
weight
as a lifestyle
As mentioned at the beginning of this ebook, there is no “magic
bullet” when it comes to weight loss. Reaching your ideal weight
and maintaining it is a lifestyle: It involves diet, exercise, hydration, and mindfulness. The reward for leading a healthy lifestyle
is more than just weight loss however, it also increases longevity.
It’s a benefit that no weight loss guru can promise you at any
price. In fact, living a healthy lifestyle is simple, nowhere is this
more evident than on the Japanese island of Okinawa.
35
Living simple:
The Okinawa Centenarian Project
The people living on Okinawa are the longest lived people in
the world. Okinawa has more centenarians - people who live to
be 100 or older - than anywhere else on Earth. The Okinawa Centenarian project was a study that sought to uncover the reason the
people of Okinawa lived so long. What researchers found was: The
people of Okinawa live simply. They eat an alkaline diet, mostly
made of vegetables, fruits, and rice. They exercise daily, and they
practice mindfulness: A kind of daily meditation
that focuses your attention on the present. The
water they drink is alkaline water. It has a pH of
10, and is rich in healthy minerals. You can live
the same kind of simple lifestyle that the people of Okinawa live. LIFE Ionizers has a resource
to help you called The Alkaline Lifestyle.
36
Living the Alkaline Lifestyle
Turning over a new leaf and living a whole new life

Quick Checkup: Is your kitchen ready for your
weight loss program?
Your kitchen can either help or hinder your weight loss
plans. Here’s five things to check in your kitchen to make
sure it help, rather than harms, your weight loss goals:
1.Water Ionizer - Makes water with the right pH
for drinking, detoxing produce, and cooking
2.Food processor - Makes it easier to prepare
healthy dishes
3.Healthy snacks - So you chose healthy
snacks between meals
4.Get rid of unhealthy foods - Like sugary
sodas, so you’re not tempted
5.Your favorite healthy recipes - Helps you
choose healthy dishes to prepare at meals
38
Setting
yourself up
to win
The final piece of advice you’ll get from this ebook is to set
yourself up to win. Healthy weight loss management is as
much a mental exercise as it is a physical one. Make your goals
attainable. Set weight loss goals in small increments, say 3 - 5
pounds at a time. That way, you’ll reward yourself with a string
of small victories as you work towards your ideal weight.
Unrealistic goals will cause you to give up!
39
4 keys to weight loss success
1.
Make changes gradually, it’s easier to stick with
a new diet if you give yourself time to acclimate.
Your taste for foods will change as your diet
changes. It’s very common for someone who has
switched to a healthy diet to find the odors from
the fast foods they used to love have become a lot
less appealing!
40
2.
Reward yourself often. After all, you’re the one
putting in the work here! Even just the fact that
you stuck to your new routine for the first full
day of your new lifestyle is reason to celebrate!
Share your victories with friends, go out dancing
for a night, reward yourself with something nice.
Positive reinforcement gives you the confidence
to reach your goals.
41
3.
Go easy on yourself. It’s easy to break your
diet, it’s also easy to blow off a workout. These
things don’t make you weak, or a bad person,
they make you human. In fact, when you catch
yourself doing these things, that’s a victory!
You’ve given yourself the opportunity to get
right back on your routine.
42
4.
Live simply, like the Okinawans do. Eat right,
exercise, hydrate, and stay mindful. You can do
this one meal, one workout, and one glass of
water at a time. That’s really all it takes.
