Note: Students in all classes will need access to the Internet as well as a computer and printer for the
various creative and academic writing assignments this school year. If you don’t have a computer and
printer at home, please find a way to borrow one, use the one(s) at school, or go to the local library to
use theirs. All assigned papers MUST be typed this year. The only exception to a turned-in typed paper is
one which is uploaded via Google Docs or emailed to me in a Word document. This change not only gets
students ready for upper grades (and college) but helps my aging eyes. 

Textbook: Celebrating Texas: Honoring the Past, Building the Future by McDougal Littell
LBA owns these textbooks. Each student rents a textbook for the nominal fee of $10.
Please bring your fee to Mrs. Stevens the first day of class.
Course Description: Students study the history of Texas from early times to the present. The focus in
each era is on key individuals, events, issues, and their impact. Students identify regions of Texas and
the distribution of population within and among the regions and explain the factors that caused Texas to
change over time. Students describe the structure and functions of municipal, county, and state
governments, explain the influence of the U.S. Constitution on the Texas Constitution, and examine the
rights and responsibilities of Texas citizens.
Course Outline: Our goal is to cover one chapter per week with thirty-one chapters total. Some
chapters may be combined into one unit of study. The students will have a test, project, or major
activity for each chapter or unit of work.
Grading:
Tests, projects, major activities-50%
Daily work, homework, quizzes, completion, participation, assignment sheet-50%
Tests: Tests will be given in different ways. Some will be taken during regular class time. Others will be
taken during Study Hall, and some may be take-home tests. All testing locations are left to the
instructor’s discretion.
Parents as Partners: Encourage your son or daughter to read the newspaper, news magazines, and
watch programs and discuss the importance of learning about the development of human societies and
current events as topics of study in the classroom.

Speedy Spanish Book 1
Publisher: Bechtel Books
Speedy Spanish Book 1 is intended as an introductory course rather
than a complete grammatical course. Even so, many grammatical
concepts are picked up through usage. This course focuses on students
having fun with the language; they can learn more of the grammar and
rules when they get into more formal language study. This course,
instead, focuses on speaking and listening, the introduction of
vocabulary, learning short Bible verses, and learning praise songs in
Spanish.
