Children learn spellings in a variety of different ways. In the past, I have listed 8 different activities that the
children could do in order to help them learn them. Please continue to use these with your children. Look
back at past homework sheets for the examples.
Below, I have listed a few more activities that the children could carry out
1. Make a word search using all of the spelling words
2. Make up a crossword puzzle using all the words. Write clues for each word. Give it to an adult to do.
3. What other 3. 4 or 5 letter words can you make from the letters of the most difficult spelling? Is there a
spelling that you can make more words from?
4. Link each of your spellings together like on a scrabble board
5. Write words that are similar to each of your spellings
6. Write the meanings of the word out
7. Write the word into an interesting sentence
The children will be tested on Monday.
Reading
The children should read five times at home during the week. Taking it in turns to read helps the children
to understand what to do at punctuation, how to add expression and intonation and to understand what
pace is required when reading aloud. Please ask questions about the text, as comprehending what they
have read is key. Please sign their yellow Reading Record Book every time they read to, or with, you.
Thank you.
Maths
Learn their mental calculations so that they can travel from one stage to the next swiftly! The children will
be assessed every week and will progress on to the next stage once they have completed their challenge
successfully three times. (All correct in less than 5 minutes) Your child is on stage
.
They will be tested next Monday.
