No one everthihkvS too much
about their doctor's office until they
have to go there. Until they've gone
through every bottle of aspirin,
Tylenol, Dayquil and Nyquil. Until
every garbage can in the house is
filled with used Kleenex. Until the
other resident in their happy home
can't stand the moaning and
groaning and says: "Now arc you
going to go to the Doctor!?"
When you're sick you know
you're sick because all day, every
day people keep saying: "Gosh, you
look sick!" So you call the doctor's
office and although you talk like
you've got a bag of cotton balls
shoved up your nose and your voice
is raspy from all the coughing
you've been doing, they ask: "And
what's the problem?"
Once at the doctor's office you
find a seat in the waiting room
where everybody else is coughing
and sneezing. If your visit was for
any reason other than because
"you've got what's going around," bythc time you left, yoii'd have "what's
going: around!"
You rummage through the stack
of outdated magazines, most of
them with the manufacturer's
coupons torn out. It never fails.
Just as you're getting engrossed in
an article, your name is called.
You never think to bring the
magazine into the examination
room, so while you're waiting for the
doctor you resort to reading the
charts on the wall and the warning
labels on the medical waste disposal
containers.
The doctor enters the room and
you proceed to describe your
problem when suddenly a freezing
cold metal stethoscope gets slapped
to your chest. You come six inches
off the examining table and let out a
screech an octave above your
normal voice level. Like everyone
else, you've got the flu.
Wfycn you're little and you're
sick you get to stay'homc in bed.
Mom brings you juice and chicken
soup and kisses you. on the head.
When you're grown tip and have the
bug, you drag yourself out of bed
each day. You drag yourself to work
just to hear everybody say: "Don't
gjve me what you've got." And you
drag yourself home every night.
Why is it that after seeing the
doctor only the kids get a lollipop?
There is no justice in this world!
Several State Agencies Bid
to Merge with County ARC

Mr. Shea isn't surprised
that other agencies would
seek to merge with Lewis
County despite its recent
financial problems.
"It would be in-the best
interests of any agency that
is funded by the state to seek
mergers," he told us. "You
can become a lot .more stable
by increasing your client
base, and you can save
