Goal 1 Provide students comprehensive and accessible instructional opportunities through community based education, dual enrollment, academic transfer, technical education, health science, and work force development programs. Graduate Safety; Patient centered care, Nursing Judgement Competencies: Students in NUR 104 require up to three times checking off on Medication checkoff Initial labs (Oral Subq, Intramuscular). This is time consuming and indicates a need for Assessment: review. Overall standardized exam score Fall 2012 for this areas was = 951 demonstrating the problem was performance rather than cognitive. Scheduled Completion Date: Budget Amount: Fall 2014 supplies $1000 1. The faculty member will provide handson lab in small groups (810) each week. 2. The faculty will implement peer coaching to assist with lab practice time. 3.The Action Plan: faculty member will devise teaching activities to include instructions with medication administration record and physician orders as well as practice for nonparenteral and parenteral medications. Outcome Outcome will be measured by observation of student behavior using a performance Measure: objective checklist. Goal 1 Provide students comprehensive and accessible instructional opportunities through community based education, dual enrollment, academic transfer, technical education, health science, and work force development programs. Graduate NLNAC: Human Flourishing QSEN: Patient Centered Care Competencies: The NUR 105 Comprehensive Exam scores on therapeutic communication for Summer 2013 were 797 and Fall 2013 were 1011. NUR 106 Comprehensive Exam Initial scores were 819 and 703 for summer and Fall 13 respectively. In addition, graduate Assessment: employer survey results showed that 81% of respondents felt the graduate was adequately prepared in the area of communication. Scheduled Completion Summer 2014 Date: Budget none Amount: In each lecture for NUR 105 and 106, the students will respond by Response ware/test (clicker) questions to two Therapeutic Communication questions. Following Action Plan: the responseware totaling, faculty will discuss with the students the rationales behind each correct/incorrect response. Outcome Therapeutic Communication questions on comprehensive standardardized exams Measure: for NUR 105 and NUR 106. OVERALL RESULTS In the Spring 2014, the comprehensive standardized exam eliminated the Therapeutic Communication section and instead included four sections of communication questions. Results were as follows: Nur 105/106 IPC: 857/863. EC: 857/688. TCC: 898/786. NC: 985/687. Despite the inability to compare comprehensive results, students verbally identified increasing comfort in responding to communication questions. The NUR 105/106, faculty decided that although standardized exam results did not directly reflect improvement, the project was successful and will continue with it in the Fall 2014 semester. Common student comments/ suggestions indicate need for change. "want more interaction with/direction from the adjunct faculty", "want to know about the RN's role in psychiatric nursing", "unsure what they should be doing at times". Fall 2013 None at this time Student clinical learning objectives created and shared with psychiatric clinical faculty: 1. Students should plan and implement a group session. 2. Students may shadow a RN for the day (oneonone). 3. Students may observe a team meeting/ therapy session as permitted. 4. Students should review and discuss information from chart (DSM, current diagnosis, etc.) during prepost conference. 5. Measure: OVERALL RESULTS Eightyeight percent indicated (strongly agree/agree) that their learning experiences were valuable. Common student suggestions included: "need more interaction with Results: RN to see nurses role", "want to be more involved in group therapy", "evening clinical not as beneficial". Use of Continue to restructure psychiatric clinical objectives. Meet with unit manager at Results: EAMC clinical agency prior to next psychiatric rotation in Summer 2014. The outcome was met and the satisfaction ratings increased over last year.
