Westfield on Wednesday, May 4,
beginning at 6 p.m. at the Plainfield
Country Club in Edison.
Fashions by Emily’s Boutique will
be featured. Janet O’Sullivan of
Mountainside and Debbie Efthimion
of Bedminster are chairing the event.
Avi Kiriakatis of Kenilworth is president of the organization. The National President, Aphrodite Skeadas,

History of List Case

AARP Chapter No. 4137 will hold
its last meeting of the chapter year
on Monday, May 2, at the Scotch
Hills Country Club, located at the
intersection of Plainfield Avenue and
Jerusalem Road in Scotch Plains.
During this meeting, Superior
Court Judge William L’E. Wertheimer
will relate the history of the famous
John List case, as he was the sitting
judge at the time of the List trial.
Judge L’E. Wertheimer is the Dean of
the Union County Judiciary and has
been a sitting judge for 27 years.
Additionally, the club will accept
reservations and payment for its

at Giovanna’s restaurant in Plainfield.
The cost of $30 includes gratuity and
soft drinks. The menu is as follows:
salad, penne vodka, choice of baked

Katrina appeal remains an on-going
commitment, addressing the needs
of several families. Last year, funds
were quickly given to the Haiti Disaster relief effort, and now are being
directed to the Japanese Earthquake
victims, through the International
Orthodox Charities. Many local community needs also are met.
The on-premise gift raffles will feature theme baskets and individual items
valued at over $200 each. Door prizes
also will be available. The Grand Raffle
prizes are as follows: First prize, Crystal Fox fur valued at $2,500; second
prize, Chanel handbag valued at
$2,300; third prize, Peridot/Diamond
Pendant earrings and ring, valued at
$2,200; fourth prize, New York City
Theater Weekend valued at $1,200,
and fifth prize, Short Hills Mall gift
card valued at $1,000. Proceeds from
the Grand Raffle will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
and St. Michael’s Home for the Aged.

of the Greek Orthodox Church of

philanthropic religious organizations

St. Bartholomew Academy
To Hold Golf Fundraiser
AREA – On Monday, May 23, St.
Bartholomew Academy will hold a
Golf and Dinner Charity fundraiser.
The event will be held at Maplewood
Country Club beginning with an 11:30
a.m. lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. golf
start. A reception and dinner will
follow at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the
event will be dedicated to funding
facility improvements for the school.
The cost for golf participants, including lunch and dinner, is $235
per person. For those who can only
attend the reception and dinner, the
cost is $100. There are also opportunities for journal ads beginning at
$50, and Hole Sponsors are available at $200. This is a great way to
support the school and enjoy a great
day of fun.

Philip Falcone and Grace Doctorow
of Long Branch, formerly of Westfield,
have announced the marriage of their
son, Joshua Falcone, to Karen Kaplan,
daughter of Robert Kaplan and Kathy
Jassem of Cherry Hill.
The wedding took place on the
morning of February 20 at The Westin
Philadelphia. Rabbi Leah Richman
and Cantor Eugene Rosner of Temple
Beth Hillel-Beth El of Wynnewood,
Pa. officiated.
Many Westfield High School graduates participated in the festivities, including bridesmaid and sister of the
groom, Rachel Falcone of Brooklyn,
and Best Man Mike Bird of Canada.
Others included groomsmen Brett
Rosenblatt and Tim Caprario of New
York, John Cognetti of Virginia and
Keith Shaffer of Connecticut, as well
as guests Marian and Julia Pomann,
Sarah Heitner, Jennifer Lamont and
Sarah (Lamont) Ochoa. Also celebrating the event were current and former
Westfield residents, including the
groom’s maternal grandmother, Bella
Doctorow of Tinton Falls; family
friends Debbie and John Lamont of

The bride’s brother, Justin Kaplan
of Philadelphia, was a groomsman.

the University of Hartford. She attended graduate school in business at

Nite group at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church will meet on Friday, May
6, at 7:30 p.m. in Westminster Hall on
Marian Avenue.
Co-Chairwomen Pat Lake and
Nancy Bassman ask that those doing
quilting bring their cutting boards
and/or sewing machines to continue
working on the quilt project. Those

The knit and crochet circle of women
will continue working on the various
projects they make for newborns, area
nursing homes and those needing the
extra care of a prayer shawl.

WESTFIELD – John Walsh, host of
“America’s Most Wanted” and founder
of the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children (NCMEC),
will lead a discussion entitled “Keeping Our Children Safer” on Sunday,
May 15, beginning at 7 p.m. at The
Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds from this special community event will benefit the
NCMEC. There is a suggested minimum donation of $20 per ticket. The
Presbyterian Church in Westfield is
located at 140 Mountain Avenue.
Mr. Walsh was the driving force
behind the “Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act,” which in
addition to establishing a national
sex offender registry law, made significant changes to sexual abuse,
exploitation and transportation
crimes. Since his son Adam’s death
in 1981, he has fought tirelessly to
help protect children. During the
program at The Presbyterian Church
in Westfield, he will lead an interactive discussion with the audience on
various child safety issues.
