Funds raised will benefit the more Judge to Tell AARP History of List Case WESTFIELD – Westfield Area AARP Chapter No. 4137 will hold its last meeting of the chapter year on Monday, May 2, at the Scotch Hills Country Club, located at the intersection of Plainfield Avenue and Jerusalem Road in Scotch Plains. During this meeting, Superior Court Judge William L’E. Wertheimer will relate the history of the famous John List case, as he was the sitting judge at the time of the List trial. Judge L’E. Wertheimer is the Dean of the Union County Judiciary and has been a sitting judge for 27 years. Additionally, the club will accept reservations and payment for its Monday, June 6 luncheon to be held at Giovanna’s restaurant in Plainfield. The cost of $30 includes gratuity and soft drinks. The menu is as follows: salad, penne vodka, choice of baked salmon, chicken parmigiana or veal marsala, dessert and coffee or tea. Drinks may be purchased at the bar. The Hurricane Katrina appeal remains an on-going commitment, addressing the needs of several families. Last year, funds were quickly given to the Haiti Disaster relief effort, and now are being directed to the Japanese Earthquake victims, through the International Orthodox Charities. Many local community needs also are met. The on-premise gift raffles will feature theme baskets and individual items valued at over $200 each. Door prizes also will be available. The Grand Raffle prizes are as follows: First prize, Crystal Fox fur valued at $2,500; second prize, Chanel handbag valued at $2,300; third prize, Peridot/Diamond Pendant earrings and ring, valued at $2,200; fourth prize, New York City Theater Weekend valued at $1,200, and fifth prize, Short Hills Mall gift card valued at $1,000. St. Bartholomew Academy To Hold Golf Fundraiser AREA – On Monday, May 23, St. Bartholomew Academy will hold a Golf and Dinner Charity fundraiser. The event will be held at Maplewood Country Club beginning with an 11:30 a.m. lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. golf start. A reception and dinner will follow at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to funding facility improvements for the school.
