School were treated to a lesson from a
traveling trunk, TEXAS CRITTERS, which
arrived from the Texas Wildlife Association.
Some items included in the trunk were furs,

Ms. Auvil’s Advanced English class
at Gladewater High School produced
a movie depicting the story of Beowulf
from Grendel’s point of view. The
students wrote the lyrics and script,
portrayed the characters, worked behind
the scenes, directed, filmed, and edited
the production. Could an Oscar be in
the future?
A local family recently received assistance from
some students at Gladewater Middle School. The students
participated in a benefit to help the family with medical
expenses. Thanks to these students for giving back to the
community.

outside of Gladewater!

Acceleration, velocity, and time were the concepts learned by
students running races with and without a bowling ball in Mr. Norman’s
Physics classes at Gladewater High School. Some students opted to
sprint to the finish, some to walk, and others to ride piggy back. Data
was recorded, graphed, and analyzed - all while the students had loads
of fun.

Students in Ms. Bright’s class at
Broadway Elementary School enjoyed the
book, Judy Moody. They used pizza boxes to make
Me Collages and took a walk on the Red Carpet.
These students will see you on Broadway!
Day and Night
Weldon Intermediate School students discovered
they can use everyday materials to model how Earth’s
rotation on its axis causes day and night. They watched
sunrise and sunset as the Earth rotated and the sun
(flashlight) stayed in place. Using models to understand
science really helps!
Math Night
Gay Avenue Primary School students and parents
enjoyed movie night, which was presented by the PTO. Some
students wore their pajamas as they enjoyed Madagascar 3 while
munching on popcorn. There was no charge for attending the
movie or for the treats. Good times!
Advanced Chemistry students at Gladewater High
School conducted laboratory experiments to test the different
states of matter, controlled chemical reactions, endothermic
and exothermic reactions, and the law of conservation of
mass. Mr. Pigeon has these budding scientists hard at work!
Christmas Parade
The Student Council at Broadway Elementary School
participated in the Gladewater Christmas Parade. Ms.
Elrod and the D.A.D.S. volunteers helped with the
float, which won 2nd Place!
Early Literacy
Gay Avenue Primary
School students were hard
at work taking an important
computerized test! First
and second graders
participate in the Star
Early Literacy program,
which is designed to
diagnose reading difficulties.
Teachers use the results
to plan instruction and
intervention for students.

Students at
Gladewater High
School used dough
to understand the
basic elements
and definitions of
geometry in Ms.
Steven’s classes.
Modeling points,
lines, and planes
made learning about
math lots of fun.

Experimental Learning
Parents and students participated in Hiking to Success
at Gladewater Middle School. This event allowed parents to
gain hands-on experience with middle school mathematical
concepts and problems. The night concluded with a hot dog
supper.
Play Time
Gladewater Middle School inducted 34
new members into the NJHS. Members will
participate in service projects throughout the
year. We are proud of your success!
Healthy Habits
Broadway Elementary School students in Ms.
Richardson’s class learned about the importance of
good hygiene and helping each other stay well. They
plan to follow simple tips like washing their hands
several times a day to keep the germs away.
Soil Science
Fifth grade students at Weldon Intermediate
School brought soil samples from home to begin
their investigations
of soil, weathering,
erosion, and deposition.
The students used
virtual balances and
actual balances to
determine mass of the
soil samples.
iPads
Students at Gladewater Middle
School have
been enjoying
the use of
iPads in the
classroom.
