Head-Start Scholarship Application
As a high school senior who has taken at least one academic year of culinary classes in
high school or has participated for at least one academic year in a culinary related
organization – ProStart, C-CAP, SkillsUSA or FCCLA – you’ve proven your interest in
the food service industry. Recognizing the motivation and potential you have already
shown, the Culinary Institute of Virginia has a scholarship opportunity especially for you.
Qualified Applicants will receive a $2,000 non-renewable
Scholarship to the Culinary Institute of Virginia!
To qualify you must:
● Be an active participant of ProStart,® C-CAP, SkillsUSA or FCCLA for at least one academic year, or,
have completed one academic year of culinary classes in high school.
● Submit a completed scholarship application (see reverse) and essay. Your essay should be based on one
of the following two topics, and should be approximately 500 words in length:
Selection 1: Describe your favorite restaurant. What makes eating there a good experience?
Evaluate the customer service, the menu, the quality of the food, the presentation
of the food and what makes the customer want to return.
Selection 2: What is the difference between a good cook and a chef? Which one will you
be and why? Describe your favorite meal to cook and what makes it special.
● Complete an Enrollment Application to the Culinary Institute of Virginia, with an expected start date in
the Fall of 2015.
Scholarship Application is due no later than Friday, May 29, 2015, at 5pm.
This scholarship is specifically designed for the sole purpose of defraying the cost of tuition and fees.
