MAPLE CLASS – YEAR 3
September 2016
Dear Families,
I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable Summer Holiday and your children are excited about
starting Year 3. We will be ensuring that the children settle into the Juniors confidently within the
first half term. Our topic is called ‘Savage Stone Age!’ and is mainly about the historic era in Britain.
Please see the topic web for more details of our curriculum.
As part of our topic, we will be going on a trip to National Trust’s Avebury Henge and Stone
Circles on Tuesday 27th September. The children will have the opportunity to participate in a
Talk and Tour of the Henge and stone circles in the historical Wiltshire countryside. You child will
need to wear their school uniform with full length trousers and appropriate footwear (Wellies and
Raincoats may be required depending on the weather.) The trip will take place within the usual
school day and a separate letter will be sent out with details.
Free school meals are only available to KS1. Therefore, if you require a school dinner you will need
to pay via Scopay and choose your child’s menu options online. Remember they need to be booked
7 days in advance.
The children will have their PE lesson on Wednesday afternoon and should ensure their PE kit is at
school on these days. This term it only needs to include a plain white t-shirt and black shorts for
indoor activities and black tracksuit bottoms, a dark jumper and trainers for outdoor activities.
Please try to ensure all their kit is clearly named. PE kit should be in a clearly labelled kit bag. If
you do not have one already they are available from the school office for £1.50. Your child will also
require a Woodland Workshop Kit including Welly boots/old trainers, long trousers, long sleeved top
and a waterproof coat.
Your child must bring their book bag to school everyday. They are currently being kept in school
and more information about reading will follow.
I am delighted to inform you that Mr. Lockley will be taking the class every Thursday morning. Mrs
Tyrrell will support the teaching and learning daily during the mornings. The children will also have
the opportunity to take a weekly PE lesson with Miss Featonby.
I really encourage the children to reflect on the learning via our class blog, which is accessed
through our class page on the school website.
I do try to be available before and after school for a few minutes each day. If you need a longer
conversation please book an appointment at the school office.
Best wishes,
Miss J. Streeter & Mrs. R. Tyrrell
