MATHEMATICS
SQUARE OF NUMBERS USING VEDIC MATHEMATICS
Using this method we can find square of any number up to 99.
Step 1: find the square of unit digit. If the square is a two digit number or more, retain its unit digit and
carry forward the remaining part and add this to the number obtained in step 2.
Step 2: find two times the product of tens digit and the ones digit and find its sum with the
digit/number obtained from step 1 (if any). Now retain its unit digit and carry forward the
remaining part and add this to the number obtained in step 3.
Step 3: find the square of the tens digit and find its sum with the digit/number obtained from
step 2 (if any)
Combine the results to obtain the square of any given number.
Some Examples are given below.
Square of any number (up-to 99)

tens place square / tens × ones × 2 / ones square
232 = 22 / 2x3x2 /32 = 4 + 1 / 12 (12)/ 9 = 5,2,9 =529
582 = 52 / 5x8x2 / 82 = 25+8 / 86 (80+6)/ 64 (64) = 33,6,4 =3364
482 = 42 / 4x8x2 / 82 = 16+7 / 70 (64+6)/ 64 (64) = 23,0,4 =2304
322 = 32 / 3x2x2 / 22 = 9+1 / 12 (12)/ 4 = 10,2,4 = 1024
882 = 82 / 8x8x2 / 82 = 64+13 / 134 (134)/ 64 (64) = 77,4,4 =7744
Now, practice the above method to find squares of all numbers from 11 to 50.
Note: Show the working for all the numbers.
The working should be shown in A4 size ruled sheets.
The question may be asked during FAs (viz. Quiz)
