The Fluxbag inflates virtually anything with just one breath
German startup ends the struggle of blowing into air mattresses or toys

Leipzig, Germany – Everybody hates the arduous task of blowing into air mattresses, floaties or
anything else inflatable. Fluxbag, a startup based in Leipzig, Germany, now wants to save us from
biting into flimsy PVC valves and blowing our lungs out once and for all. The team launched The
Fluxbag on Kickstarter on August 18, 2016.
The Fluxbag is a large, air-tight nylon bag that weighs about 100g / 3.5oz. and comes folded in a tiny,
about hand-size pack. It uses the Bernoulli effect that also allows planes to fly: Just one slight breath
into the Fluxbag propels in the surrounding air, which is captured and then released through an
exchangeable valve into all kinds of inflatables. Instead of exhausting their lungs and diaphragm,
users simply push down the Fluxbag to effortlessly inflate their air mattresses or beach toys. Items that
before have taken 10 minutes and more to inflate are now filled in about a third of that time.
Jens Thiel, one of the company´s two founders, explains: “We really like open air festivals and the
beach – and we really like to chill on air mattresses. Inflating them, though, proved to be excruciatingly
painful for years. We were looking for a truly mobile and lightweight solution to that problem but
couldn´t find anything in the market. That´s how the Fluxbag came about.”
Lucas V. Richter, Fluxbag´s other founder, remembers: “My little brother had one of those giant
inflatable crocodiles. Whenever the family went to the beach, this huge thing sat in the car like a fifth
passenger. No one dared to deflate the enormous toy crocodile, dreading the task of filling it again.
I´m happy that travelling with pre-inflated toys is history now.”
Fluxbag is compatible with 95% of commercially available valves and costs EUR 19 / US$ 21. The
Fluxbag´s pilot marketing campaign on Kickstarter is raising EUR 4,000 and is open until 2 October,
2016.
